Mu USA Top 5 for the Olympics (hockey only, obv.)
1. Connor Hellebuyck. Self explanatory. Really shite all over his doubters with his play. For Winnipeg's sake I hope he can drag them into the playoffs and go on a run. But it's Winnipeg, not an all-star team.
No order 2-5
Jack Hughes (played great throughout, looked healthy, made plays, gets the golden goal after losing a few teeth. I will never criticize him ever again for being soft or too vulnerable to injury. Showed up when it mattered.
Quinn Hughes
This is that missing player from 4 Nations due to injury and we witness the difference in team play. A GWG, elite defense, making key plays,
Zach Werenski
A rock on defense, made it look easy and the offense just flowed with him out there. Having Quinn helped, but it's not like he didn't perform to standards or beyond.
Auston Matthews
It was either him or Eichel. Matthews didn't wow but he was steady and he gave his line stability every shift. I find it hilarious that he goes back to TO with gold and a team struggling around him.
At some point Canadians are going to have to figure out what works for goaltending because come 2028 are they gonna put a 36 year old Binnerr out there? If not him, Blackwood might be your best option. I usually followed the differences between the US development for goaltenders. This is the one I was looking for:
Goal (51 in '30): The primary, explicitly stated goal is to have American goalies playing over 51% of minutes in top-tier professional leagues (NHL/PWHL) by 2030.
Gold medals aside, the men's and women's sides are developing great goaltending miles ahead of anybody else. Sweden and Russia would round out a top 3 but when your top competition is America's hat, it's always something to compare to. They're not turning out Roy's, Fleury's, Brodeur's, Luongo's, etc anymore.

Big time choke by Canada. The Mackinnon whiff, McDavid doing hero hockey in OT leading to the turnover, Canada's +2 out of position on GWG. I don't give a shite about the "we outplayed them" narrative from Canada. Failed when they should've been playing conservatively.

Best part of the Winter Olympics was seeing that today and the woman’s team win their gold medal.
