I still have one that I purchased back in the late 80's. Never been cleaned or broken down for any reason, not once. Apparently you can still get them too.

Maybe for spinning reels, but for bait-casters give me a Shimano Curado…

Its more about the usage rather than the age. If you rinse/wash after use and store indoors, they will last a long time. I use Shimano Stradix and still have a couple that are 10-15 years old with heavy usage. The new ones are really sweet.

That’s what I used to have.

Hope the thieves that stole it get hung up and lose their tackle (probably also mine) on every cast!

The only rinsing or cleaning it's ever gotten is rain water. It's the only piece of fishing equipment I abuse the way Ike abused Tina, and it just keeps coming back for more.

The gold Chronarch SF casting reels were some of the best casting reels ever made. I had the and the Silver higher dollar ones on my service for a looooong time and they all worked

For spinning, the Diawa SS was good but the white Shimano Stradic was probably tougher.

I don't know. Their current stuff is so goo you really don't have to go much higher than $120 is to get something buttery smooth. I fish multiple brands, but for spinning, I believe Daiwa cannot be beaten in the under $200 categories. On casting, I have bought a bunch of reels in the last couple of years, and I give Shimano the edge there.

Big fan of the Diawa Tatula spinning reels. The rivers we fish here are abusive to equipment. The Diawas are the only reels that don't seize up and have to be cleaned multiple times a year.

I have two Daiwa reels and I really like them. I have a Fuego CT Baitcaster and recently picked up a BG3000 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel. Both are smooth and easy.

Love Curados. I’ve owned most of the versions from the CU200B. Still throw the 200e7 and now have a 200hg M.

The Daiwa Coastal 150SVTW is what I throw the most right now

I just bought a lightly used one and haven't even spooled it yet.

I have a Daiwa millionaire casting reel that dates back to the seventies; it still works fine when I use it.

No doubt, but twice as expensive as a Curado. Hard to beat the “value” of a Curado.

I think the SS was the very first spinning reel that hit the market with the worm gear feature that prevents line from digging in. That feature was a game changer.

Same, salt or fresh. I've also got a JDM Zillion, and I want to believe it's better than the Coastal, but I can't really tell the difference. Set up correctly they're damn near backlash proof and throw a mile.

Daiwa BG. It's not the only option but it's a good one.

Saw him driving down the road a couple of weeks ago.

My brother had one of the old original black Procasters.
I'd sneak it out sometimes and use it.
