That may have been the case in 2020, but basically every poll of the 2024 election so far shows Biden with worse ratings.
If trump beats Biden this November, I think it will be because Biden is much less popular than he was when he was running in 2020

I have a suspicion that with the way social media, mis/disinformation, citizens united, the media making so much money polarizing us and keeping us at each other's throats, all these things and more that have changed the way our conversations and elections happen, we'll see a shift to where incumbents are inherently at a disadvantage. This has never been the case in American political history so it would be a significant pivot.
