Sending a big thank you to all the Slaves and appreciation for all their hard work.

It shouldn't be a holiday. If they wanted to make it a holiday, they could have picked a day more unifying like the end of the war of northern aggression (May 26). As for the name itself, completely agree on that if they insist on having it.
I just dont get why it needs to be a holiday. July 4th is in a couple weeks, is celebrating the document declaring "all men are created equal" not enough?

My brother texted me moments ago stating the 'figs who live behind me have the day off. They started playing outdoor music loudly at 7am...'

Slaves didn’t build this country just as slaves didn’t build the Great Pyramids.

I’m celebrating by living in a city with no streets named after MLK.

Whatever.
The EP freed no one and was really only to prevent France and England from joining in the war. It was a politically calculated move by Lincoln, not a measure of his empathy.
Kentucky and I think Delaware still had slaves after the war.
The 13th amendment put and end to it for everyone, North and South.
Know your American history

Without slaves, the antebellum south wouldn't be isht. The north was more market oriented and wealthier.

I do. When companies force this shite on you, I bet most aren’t adding it as an extra pto day, they are taking a day away.
We went from 3 days at Thanksgiving to 2. Not the end of the world, but given the choice I’d prefer the extra day to drive to see family vs some random fricking day in the middle of the week that is irrelevant to me.

France and England were never joining the war. France had its hands full with Mexico and England wasn't going to support the south when it already ended slavery 30 years prior. England got their cotton from Egypt and India at that point.

I am flying my American flags today as I do on any day that celebrates freedom.

Right attitude there. Juneteenth is legit while presidents day is straight cult isht.

I wouldn't even know it was Juneteenth today without Tigerdroppings reminding me.

Do you only long for the “good ole days” of Jim Crow or do you really want a new Antebellum era when a man still had his right to own chattel with two legs?

Well, there was more than enough concern that they would. There many meetings and letters between Seward and the US ministers in England and France about it, correspondence between English and French diplomats and officials. Both countries wanted cotton and commerce.
A simple Google, Chat GPT, or Grok search will tell you as much, with the Ai models even providing specific examples and some letters.

Is there a Juneteenth National Anthem?
