We didn’t ask specifically for those roads to be built, or have a fire department. Why should we pay for things that have nothing to do with us?

you're why we have a representative republic. we vote and let the majority decide on what services they want to have. i'll hang up and wait for you to go build you a cabin in the woods with no road to it. how about next election you run or find you a candidate to run on the platform that they're gonna stop maintaining your roads and bridges, stop building new roads, eliminate law enforcement, eliminate fire departments, eliminate emergency and 911 services, eliminate the local court system, and not maintain or build any new parks or ball fields. see how that goes over

A bunch of fricking losers in here bitching about paying for things that may actually help someone besides themselves. They want all the benefits of paying taxes without actually paying anything. "I dIdN't AsK fOr No RoAdS oR sChOoLs" Well go live off grid then and quit bitching, but we know that won’t happen because you’re on an online message board crying like a bitch.

I figure I've paid for all that shite, and then some. They need to knock off the waste, or it's going to get really dark, really quick in this bitch.

On this Thanksgiving day, perhaps you should think about this.

None of us are self sufficient.

because we all know that once you install a road, there's no further maintenance on it. and bridges don't scour, concrete deteriorate, and steel rust, and dump trucks, back hoes, motor graders, front end loaders, chip spreaders, asphalt laydown machines, etc never wear out and need replacing, and deputies and jailers don't need to be paid but the first year they're on the job. and law enforcement vehicles and firearms will run forever and never need replacing. and you don't really have to house criminals in a jail. yeah, you just pay for all that stuff once, and it's done.

i'll give you a nugget that im sure you don't know. in mississippi, we have a law that fire trucks can only be certified for use for 25 years, then they have to be replaced. current prices for a standard fire truck (not ladder truck) is about a half million dollars) we squeeze all 25 years out of ours, then have to sell a perfectly good fire truck to a county in alabama to use another 25 years, because they don't have that law in alabama. im sure the fire truck provider companies got together to get that law passed

say you don't know what they hell you're talking about without saying you don't know what you're talking about

Just got my property tax bill the day before Thanksgiving. A big F you from EBR parish

The big F you is one guy pays 20k, someone a house down pays 9k, and 4 blocks away, 2k.

This is theft. There is no increase in costs based on home value. You get no change in services paying 20k or 2k.

don't build or buy a half million dollar house if you can't afford to pay the taxes on it. better yet, research millage rates before you move to an area, and move to a low millage rate area. BUT, you won't have the amenities and services in that lower millage rate area that you're used to in higher millage rate areas

I’m at 1.59% and the neighborhood next to me is 3.4% for the new part.

So you are a “pay their fair share” guy. Btw, the millage rate is the same, the services are the same. Amenities have nothing to do with this, any municipal services are available to all. I don’t think people should be penalized for being successful.

I also think I am more qualified to spread my money out by hiring people for services, spending on “amenities” and paying for items being sold by working Americans as opposed to giving additional funds to local governments to blow on pet projects and cronies.

My property taxes are about $8,000/year. They'd have to tax my purchases at 50% or more to get that much out of me

Show your math.

My reform plan.

All property owners pay something. Homestead exemption kicks in AFTER the first $100,000.00. It expires after the $200,000.00.

Property tax elections can only be voted on during presidential elections, Congressional elections or the election of the Governor. No more BS votes.

Property assessments have to be approved by independent auditors.

Are you still using the local infrastructure? Do you want a functioning police and fire service? Do you want good schools?

The poor consume the most as a percentage of their income.

Your consumption tax would shift the tax burden to the poor.

Every property tax on the EBR tax roll was voted on and approved by a majority of voters who actually voted in the tax elections.

Consumption tax means you pay taxes that are directly related to a service you are consuming.

Most services are not subject to sales taxes. lmao.
