I love museums. What's the best in LA?
I have not been to the National WWII Museum yet. It's #1 on my list. Are there any hidden gems?

Even though you already stated it, WWII is the best museum by far and none come even close to it in the state. Others I want to visit are: The Civil War Museum right accross the street from the WWII in NOLA and the Political Hall of Fame in Winnfield. Also Avery Island is on my list to go re-visit after going for a field trip in grade school.

If you're in Baton Rouge, the Old State Capitol is worth seeing (and it's free).
You can also go to the (new) State Capitol. It's not a museum per se, but close enough.

WWII is the best.
It is one of the best museums in the world and there’s nothing close to it in Louisiana.

Acadian Museum in St Martinville if you are interested in how the Acadians got to Louisiana, and their struggles

Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport. Founded by a wealthy oil family. Loaded with works by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell.
Sometimes you can see their rare double elephant folio of Audubon's The Birds of America (worth about $10 million). They have some neat firearms, including one of the "Million Dollar Luger" pistols. It's a .45 caliber Luger that was made for the US military trials that led to the adoption of the 1911 pistol.
The gardens out back are well known, especially for the acres of azaleas. Plenty of walking trails through them.
Totally free. Hours are somewhat limited, especially since covid, so check before going.

Yep. Saw the Ansel Adams exhibit years ago there. The grounds are gorgeous.

Didn't even know this place existed. Thank you.
I live in Lafayette, and our museums live and die by traveling exhibits.
The art museum on UL campus is surprisingly decent.

Our science museum is pretty meh. It's designed to be a half day field trip for a science class. It's an easy skip for curious adults. Every once in a while they'll get a traveling exhibit that's interesting but they've been shut in by covid.
I'm not expecting the Louvre, but any museum with unique exhibits and can hold my attention for an hour or two works.
Side note: We stopped at the battleship in Mobile with the kids this summer. I haven't been since the 80's when I was a kid. They had a ton of aircraft from the Pensacola naval air museum on display because they're shut down to the public. It was actually really cool, probably added an additional 30 minutes to an hour to the experience.

WWII museum is in a class by itself. People come from all over the world to see if. That cannot be said for any other museum in the state as far as I know.

Pharmacy museum in the quarter is small but a gem. There's a lot packed into that small place

If you are looking for low key, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches is very cool. Extremely nice building and right there on front street.

Capitol Park Museum, across from the New State Capitol, is a very neat museum. I'd assume it's a museum set up to impress visiting politicians.

USS Kidd is pretty good and has a good landside museum.
I think Jackson Barrack in Nola has a museum also.
Patterson has the sawmill and Wedell Williams aviation museum.

Not to completely change the subject, but the WW1 museum in Kansas City was awesome. Its not quite on the level of the WWII one, but its very very good.
