There are approximately 57k citizens in Greenland. If you were a Greenlander how much would you agree to receive individually in payment for your country if the US were to make an offer to purchase Greenland?

There would need to be some stipulations for Greenlanders. One stipulation would likely be US citizenship with no voting rights in federal elections, (same setup as Puerto Rico) along with provisions for some property retention for Greenlanders to remain in their current homes and businesses.

I think $1-2 million would be more than generous, that would cost the US somewhere between $60-120 billion.

$60-120 billion is a lot of money but the US is likely losing that much annually in Somali type frauds and scams across the US.

Greenland is not a sovereign nation.

If they vote to jettison Denmark in favor of the USA, they would just be changing overlords.

Would want a deal similar to what Alaska residents have with their mineral rights more than a large upfront payment so that you get a nice yearly check once the mining companies get there.

because denmark has been so nice to the inuits, converting them to lutheranism, sterilizing their women, etc.

i can't imagine they would want to be part of the US.

You are right.

The USA never did anything like that to our own indigenous peoples.

Even this isn't as cut and dry as it is made out to be. Take the natural resources that everyone is focused on, Greenland has complete control over how those resources are managed wholly independent of Denmark.

A big factor could be what kind of benefits Denmark is providing.

Certainly, we could provide more security and development investment.

Better question, how well do they speak Chinese or Russian, because they are coming and Denmark can't do anything about it.

The Greenlanders (at least those in favor of it) have been courting practically everyone, the US included, to invest in mining and similar operations. The Chinese have largely backed off in recent years, private sector outfits from the US haven't exactly been beating down their doors, an Austrailian mining company is currently involved in a bitter lawsuit with Greenland and could possibly lose billions if things don't go its way.

The people of Greenland themselves aren't even all that interested in seeing their natural resources exploited. One of the last polls taken found that over 70% of the population had no desire for it. They often elect leaders who are staunchly anti-mining, and they currently have a law that bans anything to do with uranium mining, which complicates everything involving rare Earth mining.

Greenland is worth about $1.2 Billion, according to some. But others claim it would be worth $50 billion or so. The land has natural resources, but they are untapped.
