Halligan’s departure from the role of interim United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia came as multiple judges were casting doubt on her ability to remain in the job legally following a court ruling two months ago that declared her appointment illegal. She was appointed in September to a 120-day stint, which concluded Tuesday.

The AP cannot just report the news:
"Halligan became the latest Trump ally to give up her title amid scrutiny from judges about the administration’s maneuvering to install the president’s loyalists in key posts."
As if being an "ally" or a "loyalist" is disqualifying for an appointment by ANY President. Should the standard be for a President to hire his enemies?

I get what you are saying, seems like editorializing. So I agree that editorializing is unnecessary in a pure news article.
But also consider that the term “ally” is actually a nice way of putting it.
The AP could have been more accurate by saying she became the latest “wholly unqualified person who was not appointed for her abilities as a prosecutor”.

The senate will never appoint Trump attorneys because they’re all afraid of being indicted (GOP and DNC).

Under federal law, only the sitting judges at SDNY can appoint an interim US Attorney until the Senate confirms someone. Trump legally can’t appoint someone on an interim basis to this post.
