Homeless People with Pets

In New Iberia this week. Went to get some donuts for the guys at Meche’s. Strung out white dude on a bike out front with the cutest little dog that was limping. Never cared much for homeless people, but I have a true disdain for those with pets. Poor dog loves that loser.

Are you sure the dog was the pet?

They are likely just street strays far happier with the homeless "owner" so I'm not sure why to be mad at the homeless dude.

Did you offer to take the dog from him so you could get it the medical care needed and a safe place for the dog to live?

Of all the things to get upset with, dude is mad someone is keeping a stray dog alive.

Ehhh I have a different take on this.
Is it an ideal situation? No. But there are people who live in homes that treat their animals far worse. That pet is with their friend all day in most cases. Im sure there are some hungry/cold nights, but the home aspect isn’t the main variable.

That’s not OPs job. It’s also probably a bad idea for a guy to sit at an interstate exit with a new puppy every week.
It’s a prop for:
“Look at me, you’re helping my gaunt dog by giving me money for a Bottle of OE.”

They have dogs to deter arrest, cops usually don't want to deal with the dog...

This. He likely found that dog and now takes care of it. So it's almost like a win-win for them both I'd think. Not to mention that the dog is most likely that dude's best and only true friend.
Of all things to get mad at the homeless about, this one seems like it should be pretty far down the list IMO.

I see a lot of homeless dudes with dogs. In almost every case, the dog is in much better shape than the dude.

Yuup, the same for illegal Hispanics. If they have to interact with a governmental entity, they bring kids cause no LE agency wants to deal with kids.

Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog
He said, "I will fix your rack if you'll take Jack, my dog"
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester; y'know I'm a peaceful man"
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can?"

The dog aint dopin his life away.

If the dog is being taken care of, no issues. So many are dumped and left stray by non-homeless, it’s horrific. I’ve seen the rescue community and good shelters work together to fix/medicate/treat these animals to help. At least they have each other. The homeless who exploit them for money, those animals should be taken away.

The dog is probably the only love left in that dude's life. Some men have everything and have less.
