Hannah Q isn't terrible, but BRQ has straight up crock pot pulled pork

GONZO BBQ in Luling is excellent. Open only on Fridays at Lunch
How do they make money open one day per week at lunch only?

Two pages and no one has mentioned Sonny's on Florida?

Oh, you can’t mention Sonnys on this board. They don’t like any National brand because it isn’t cool.

Deep South barbecue in North Baton Rouge
I thought they shut down during the height of Covid and never reopened

sonnys is fine, especially now that they cleaned up the inside. Still nothing to get excited about
everything in BR is cafeteria BBQ. Perfectly fine and tasty but nothing you’d expect anyone from a good BBQ area to be impressed by

I typically avoid BBQ in BR, but if I do get a craving for it, i go to Sonny's.

Couyon’s in Port Allen and, believe it or not, Whole Foods.

The Shed on Burbank has great BBQ and will be showing the LSU baseball game at noon Saturday and has live music in the evenings.

I always thought a Rudy's Country Store would kill it here. It's not the best BBQ but better than anything we have. I certainly wouldn't make BBQ my food of choice while visiting BR. We have a few serviceable places but they aren't that great.

The BBQ scene in BR is horrible.
That doesn’t make sense to me. Seems like a nice opportunity for someone.

The fatty kind.
People who just ask for brisket and don’t request fatty need to be educated.

It's been this way for decades.

Y’all need to check out a place called Smoke Bayou. It’s a new small mom n pop place but they are legit. Easily the best ribs I’ve had in Baton Rouge.

This. It would easily stand out as the best BBQ in BR.

BBQ in Baton Rouge is in a sad state. It seems all the good ones just randomly close down. Smoking Aces was solid and they closed out of nowhere. So was the one on Coursey (forget the name) before there was a takeover.
It’s not Texas level, but Sonny’s is good for what it is. And it’s consistent. Stay away from brisket and all the other meats are fine.
Cou-Yon’s in Port Allen is also good and also a quick trip.
Hannah Q used to be my top tier for BBQ but two very poor visits in a row has me questioning them.
Whole Foods does a bang up job as well, which should also tell you all you need to know about the scene here.
TJ Ribs remains popular though I haven’t eaten there in years.
Wish there was better advice for you. I’d say stick to pork or chicken and you’ll be fine at any of these places.
