You are right. Calling him skinny isn't accurate on my part. He definitely looks thicker than 215 in that picture though. Either that or his 6-5 height isn't accurate. Guess everyone can't be 6-5 240 like Cam Johnson.
I just remember an interview with Mahtook when he first said he was transferring here that one of the biggest reasons he chose LSU is for the nutrition and strength and conditioning programs because he felt he could add more weight and get more velocity out of himself.

Hurd
Holman
Jump
Auk and Cam Johnson are possibilities for weekend starts.
Loer and Guidry as closers.
Jake Brown will make some noise this year.
Quite the collection of arms, so will not be a surprise if one of the other guys jumps into the main spots.

Nah there’s too many pitchers better than Coleman for him to be in starting rotation. I figure Jump or Johnson will be a weekend starter along with Hurd & Holman

Could Loer possibly be used to close? Yeah I guess. But he doesn't have usual closer stuff.

I'm betting Ack gets used like Cooper.
This is my prediction too. I don't think he's gonna start, at least not much, but he's going to get a lot of work.
My second prediction is that Little and Dutton are going to be guys that eventually figure out an important role for themselves on this staff surprising a lot of people. Sometime around the sec tourney when one of the two comes in a big spot the fans who havent kept up too much will groan and give a "Jays giving up this game and throwing rag arms" only to have some other poster come in and show stats to show how effective they've been in that role lately. Namecalling and bickering will ensue. Actually the previous sentence isn't a prediction, thats a guarantee.

t feels like we'll be deeper overall compared to last year,
It always feels like that in November.

this pitching staff is as good as we think, Coleman will factor in very little.
That’s just not the case. You guys underestimate how many quality arms you need.

You can NEVER have too much pitching IMO.

I hope so , but It always looks like that in the off-season. The grind of the season trims it down.

We thought we were loaded last year...but until the post season turnaround, we'd devolved into a single man rotation with a bunch of average arms around him.
In preseason, you probably need 12 above average arms on paper to get 5 in the Spring. A guy likely Coleman fits in the 12. And, he's as likely to emerge as one of the 5 as most.
Now, I agree that if we get Coleman from last year, he won't be much help.

It surely didn’t pre-Jay Johnson or even in 22’.

ar...but until the post season turnaround,
I mean that kinda showed how loaded they were. Shores & Edwards go down early who were 2 of you 4-5 best pitchers.
I think the staff dealt with philosophical issues with the pitching coach and once Jay took l control you could see the best cone out in them

I like him as a long closer/setup guy. In an SEC game and you get 6 innings from your starter lets say and it's a 2-1 lead for us. Bring him in the 7th and let him close the door rest of way. A guy you can bring in games like that can be ultra valuable in a long reliever role, and by only pitching 2-3 innings or so could see him twice a week if needed.
He could close a Friday night game in like less than 20 pitches and be available again for the weekend

Interesting take. What do you think were the philosophical issues between Jay and Wes?
I would assume tactical or related to game management because Wes' impact on player development was indisputable.
With the exception of Little, you could argue that all pitchers met or exceeded their potential last season.
Were there similar issues with Kelly or did he really just leave for the UW HC job?

I don't hate that if he is cruising along, but I haven't seen anything resembling an "out" pitch from Loer this fall. I like my closers to be able to bury people when needed like Guidry.

quote:Maybe a Hurd and a Jump...but you are talking two of the best pitchers ever in college baseball with the others, they dont come along every year.
Every season there will be Thatcher Hurds, Gage Jumps, and Paul Skenes and Rhett Lowders

Not having the same kind of adjustment period or philosophical issues should allow for the staff to hit the ground running a little earlier this season.
