So dangerous to say around here…but we used to only lose a couple mil, this is the Kim Mulkey effect. She got one natty now she spends on anything and everything. Woody gave her whatever she asked for
But new regime, I don’t think she is going to be allowed to get wild with Verge

Many people have posted that baseball makes a profit and brings in more money than basketball. So don't say that doesn't happen because it does over and over again.
I thought saying virtually no one was apparent that I did not mean never, but I have seen very few people say that. Certainly not enough people to warrant starting a thread about it. It's like the threads that say "remember when y'all all wanted" about something almost nobody wanted.
But there certainly are worse threads, I guess.

Did the article mention exactly why it loses money? Viewership for LSU's last game was 1.7 - 2.3 million.

This has nothing to do with TV contracts. You know if LSU MBB can make money the last few years, WBB an make more. PMAC is always sold out if thats what you are talking out.

Really cannot wait to go back to WBB
LSU Men's BB will probably always be irrelevant.
As long as Mulkey is here Womens BB will always be "less irrelevant" than mens. Besides, you dont need to watch but the last minutes of the second half to actually see the Men's game.

How the heck WBB lose $8M? Thats just crazy. They sell more tickets than men.

Imagine how much basketball could make if it didn’t have a dead pmac
WBB losing almost 8 million is insane.

Is there a way that baseball or WBB could turn a profit?
Posted on 1/22/26 at 7:58 pm to AncientArousal
Baseball was turning a small profit years ago. I’d say not likely going to with Jay because we pay him better than anyone.
I don’t care if baseball loses money, sometimes you need a loss leader and we should be focused on winning.

Baseball will jump up and turn a profit every once in awhile. Probably a peripheral conditions sort of thing because the years it does don’t necessarily coincide with how much success the team has. I want to say we made a good profit in the mid 2010s for a couple seasons, it’s just not a reliable thing because optimal performance doesn’t equal optimum profit like the norm with other sports.

Since the majority of MBB revenue is from TV contracts, and those contracts are through the Conference and not the school, not as much as you think.
Yes a live PMAC would mean more ticket revenue, more concessions, more parking, more merch. But those are much smaller pieces of the overall pie compared to the TV money, which is paid whether the pmac is empty or full.

Baseball generates more than double basketball in the non allocated/distribution categories, 9.25MM to 3.6MM. That’s terrible.

Starting in 26-27, WBB will start receiving a significant media revenue both from the SEC contract and from the NCAA Ty payouts.
Any idea as to how much money they are talking about?

quote:Travel expense also has a lot to do with baseball's profit. They actually lose money going to the College World Series because it cost more to travel and stay in hotels than they get in revenue.
Kind of crazy that baseball didn't profit, but it's not structured as a profitable sport.
Jay Johnson making $3M a year probably contributes to this.

Ha! you think?

With revenue sharing, does any SEC men’s basketball team not make a profit?

How in the hell is baseball losing $921 million? Especially with attendance as it is.
