Sarkisian and Kiffin were toxic after their firings and he hired them both. He's hired plenty of fired coaches with skeletons in their closets.

Despite their skeletons both individuals mentioned were acknowledged to be experts schematically, damn near prodigies.

No, Alabama has a pretty damn good dline coach already. Ed's only attribute would be recruiting and analysts aren't allowed to recruit.

He would hire him simply for his recruiting ability, especially his connection to Louisiana recruits.
Yeah because Saban is really struggling in Louisiana and with recruiting in general.

This is not required for staff/analysts, or even all position coaches. Just being good at one thing, such as recruiting, is enough.

Recruiting Louisiana, yes
Let's be realistic here...

Les Miles recruited VERY well prior to Orgeron coming. I think a valid argument could be made that Miles' top teams had as much talent as Orgeron's.

Miles went to Kansas, which whatever else you want to say is still in a Power 5 conference. As far as I know, the only La recruit that went there was Pookah Williams, and I think he went before Miles did. Miles was unable to bring in guys that ended up going to ULL, and based on respective talent, they would have started at Kansas.

I don't think Orgeron is going to have any more La influence than Miles did.

Only because he's the head coach. His womanizing is not really unusual for a single multi millionaire.

What do you think O brings to the table, which Saban does not already have?

O’s recruiting skills are overrated.

might be better to reassign Ed to the AD staff. He’s gonna get paid, might as well keep him from recruiting for another SEC team.

Great idea. He still gets to be a tiger and represent the state. It just didn’t work out long term unfortunately, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind that role.

Shadow staff can’t recruit legally

bullshite! The shadow staff cannot recruit off campus, unless the NCAA grants a waiver to replace either an empty on-field coaching spot or on-field coach who is unable to go on the road.

Shadow staff can make phone calls, skype, and text recruits at any time during approved contact periods; and recruit prospects while same are on campus.

There is absolutely no blanket "shadow staff" cannot recruit.
