They’re not trying to hit MLB stuff though

That's not what I'm referring to.

I'm talking about how coaches would manage their pitching having to pinch hit with the all of the stress that the tourny puts on staffs.

DH is what has made Baseball Manager the easiest coaching gig in all of sports. No doubt about it. Show up and hand the umpire a lineup card. Cool.

Can you imagine hitting pitchers in college baseball during the NCAA Tournament? Holy hell what a nightmare that would be.

Pitchers in college would likely fare much better hitting than pitchers have been in the MLB.

Can you imagine Skenes throwing 8 shutout innings and taking a dude deep in the same game. Would have been awesome

No one liked those 18 inning regular season marathons. They sucked for the players, they sucked for the fans, and they sucked for the TV networks because no one is staying up to watch one of those games on a Tuesday night in May. The ghost runner rule is weird, but I completely understand why it's still there.

That’s an extra game worth of commercials though

I was watching some MLB highlights on YT and thats what got me to post this thread. Bartolo Colon and Randy Johnson going deep stunned everyone, including themselves... Carlos Zambrano could have been a big league position player with how good he hit.

NL didn't have a curfew. AL did.

Agreed. It was awesome to see the select few pitchers who could hold their own at the plate. Bumgarner and Greinke are two that come to mind.

Make pitchers hit again!

Cubs fan here, was a fan before the universal DH so I saw a lot of pitchers hitting. Was it entertaining in ways, for sure. Moments like Colon, Bumgarner could hit, Kerry Wood HR, I was also at a Braves game where Max Scherzer got a big hit off the bench in extra innings. Loved the World Series and interleague games in this way. 2016 got to see Schwarber DH for the Cubs in Cleveland, and then in Wrigley had to see Cleveland pitchers bat when they had hardly done it all year. Made the substitutions late in the game very interesting.

But in between all that, there was A LOT of uncompetitive ABs by pitchers. Can’t tell you how many guys I would see come up to the plate with like a .071 BA. If there were runners on they would be almost guaranteed to bunt. So many strikeouts looking by guys who were just up there trying not to get hurt.

Good post.

I was always cool with the AL having the DH, I thought the leagues being different added a lot of uniqueness to a unique game...

Didn't say you were a boomer lol. Just the take was one of a boomer. Don't really care how many times you've posted it before wanting pitchers to hit is a bad thing to yearn for.

I liked the strategy behind the pitcher batting.

Would be cool to see Skenes hit too.

LaRussa used to bat the pitcher 8th as a strategy. And double switching late in games to move the pitcher around in the order was what made games interesting.

It’s such a bland game now. The AL and the NL were like different flavors of ice cream. Now it’s the same .

Watching a MLB pitcher hit is the definition of lame. Automatic out. Straight trash.

DH ftw.
