Amazon's Tomb Raider series rumored to be dead...

The show, which was being written and developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and set to star Sophie Turner as the titular character of Lara Croft, seems to have been canceled at Amazon after tens of millions in development costs resulted in no scripts. This is another one of Jennifer Salke's projects that she was personally overseeing.

And Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner, who was reportedly in negotiations to play Lara Croft, is busy with other films for much of this year. 'I hear that it is not going ahead,' says a source.
A spokesperson for Prime Video had no comment; nor did representatives for Waller-Bridge.
The project was dealt a serious blow last week when Jennifer Salke, who gave Tomb Raider the green light and was personally overseeing the project, was booted from her role as the head of Amazon Studios.

I don't think the version with Alicia Vikander was all that bad, but it didn't do well at the box office. There's apparently a Netflix animated Tomb Raider series where Lara is gay. I guess they couldn't have a strong, intelligent female hero without making her gay, black, or a girl boss.

How do you spend millions of dollars and years of time and not have a working script for frickING TOMB RAIDER? Script is already written. It's been written a hundred times. Pick any of the Indiana Jones EU books from the 80s and 90s and put a hot chick in it. JOB DONE! That old National Treasure script we didn't use? Put a hot chick in it. That'll work, That's too obvious, get a Doc Samson story and...you guessed it, PUT A HOT CHICK IN IT!
Tomb Raider is pure pulp fun. It's not a treatise on women's empowerment or the effects of colonialism. It's a hot chick swimming through booby trapped tombs and finding treasure. Make the goddamn movie people want and make the money machine go BRRRR.

If the just made a or a tv series off the trilogy reboot of games, it would have made a crap ton of money. Script is done, although set design of first game into movie would have been pricey.

This will eventually get made, just with new writers, actors, producers, etc. Amazon owns the Tomb Raider ip. They're not gonna sit on it forever.

Can Sydney Sweeney pull off a halfway decent English accent is the question. The best thing about her is she knows exactly why she's cast in film and television projects and leans into it. The woman loves to show off her tits.

It would be so trivially easy to create a Tomb Raider show that general audiences and fans of the games would enjoy.
Cast a really hot girl with big boobs, who has fun Indiana Jones style action adventures in exotic locations. She's smart and sassy, but still likeable. Throw in some action, danger, and love interests, boom.
Not complicated at all. It's fricking Tomb Raider not your gender studies thesis at Vassar.
Making a show audiences will actually enjoy doesn't even seem to be on these peoples radar.

It would’ve been dogshit anyway. No one can play Laura Croft in the way that Angelina Jolie can.
