re: Can we discuss how quickly Kelly in Cast Away moved on from Tom Hanks

Anyone know what the legal ramifications would have been had they been married? I wonder how that would’ve worked with life insurance and dissolving the marriage due to death and then come to find out he’s alive and she’s married to someone else.

Her pic in the locket was likely the one thing that kept him going.
As Ivan Vanko said in Ironman2...
Hey man, don't get too attached to things. Learn to let go

Well, call me a "realist".
With all the real life crap out there to deal with, figure out, overcome------who really gives a shite how long a character in a movie, and a silly one at that, took to get married after her former lover was pronounced dead.
Understanding that it's a movie, while discussing such things on a MOviE/Tv bOArd forum, ...
Why got to any trouble setting up this 'pretend' world with very real life situations only to half arse the final act?

Isnt' 2 years sufficient time to move on, date and marry? Especially when your bio clock is ticking.

He's lucky he didn't have to pay for all of that work she had done on her face.

Exactly. Methinks he did better with the Texas farm chick...way hotter and had a sweet truck to boot.

we could get wrapped around the details of how shitty Kelly was...but she is living a normal boring life. Dentists have some of the highest suicide rates and lack of job fulfillment in the country. If nothing else she will live a very basic mundane life with a horrible last name...competing with her neighbors to see who has the newest IKEA patio set.
Meanwhile Chuck who was already financially set doing something he truly loved...is probably sitting on never work a day in your life again money. The girl we assume he ended up with is a massive upgrade in looks and in assets. As we can assume she owns that ranch and maybe even runs her own business.
all things considered....id rather be someone's cowboy than the love of a married womans life stuck in suburbia

She moved on, dated, got married, & had a kid(s) all within 4 years. That's pretty fast movement, especially for someone that was SUPPOSED to be earning a PhD.
All her friends are getting married and having babies, she presumably was about to get married to Hanks.
Once a she got a taste, it was easy for the next guy to swoop in and lock it up.

Man, why are you even on here posting about movies and TV, what with all the real life crap you have to go figure out and overcome? Seems like an extraordinary waste of time for someone like you to even be here in the first place.

They weren't married though.

She moved on because that is what the script said to do. It's a movie, they usually follow the script.

She can't be much of a wife to the husband. I mean, she's married and tells Tom he's the love of her life?
Plus Hanks' character was a jerk at the time of the crash. She upgraded to a nicer guy.
PS: Dentist--hey, where's the Jeep that you've been hanging onto all the years, as a symbol of your undying love?
Wife: Oh, honey, my ex showed up late last night in the rain and I gave it him.
Dentist: Hmmmmm......

I hate to break it to all you baws. But, 99% of women are going to move on quickly when you pass away. They are going to have friends and sisters trying to set them up with a quickness. Tinder accounts created.
And to be fair you'll do the same to them. Do not let your ego allow you to believe you are something special that no one will be moving on from.

People aren’t considering the fact that she was a woman in her mid to late 30s
They are on a much stricter biological timeline than men.
4 years is a massive amount of time for a woman that age.
She’s supposed to burn up a bunch of childbearing years because her old boyfriend died? It sucks but most complaints are because we apply male timelines to her.

This was real life. There was no script. There just happened to be cameras there.

There are plenty of people that get married and have kids in that amount of time. For all we know they were dating and she got pregnant and they got married. A friend of mines wife left him and 2 years later he had a kid with and married another woman they had another kid 2 years later. That’s 4 years between divorce and 2 kids with someone else. The first kid is graduating from HS this year and they are still married
