There’s a reason it was the #1 show on TV several years running. If it wasn’t consistently funny or watchable, that wouldn’t have happened.

The Bing bang theory was one of the top rated shows while it was on, and it’s one of the worst and most unfunny shows ever made. So something being popular means shite when it comes to it being good

I don't agree that BBT nor Friends are the worst and most unfunny shows ever made. That's extreme hyperbole.

I will agree that they're not great comedy. It just appeals to the masses and that's what made them amazingly popular.

I've "hated" on BBT at times, scoffed when people say how "intelligent" it is, but honestly both Friends and BBT aren't the worst shite out there. Just watch a couple of pseudo reality shows and embrace the pits of hell.

Overall Friends isn’t funny but I’ll admit this scene is a classic

Never liked it, but fun fact. A writer/producer on Friends was BR native/LSU alum Wil Calhoun.

How can you say this, if...

Not sure the audience was predominantly a boomer. Audience, strictly speaking. It seemed just a shade younger to me.

Most I knew were watching these shows were younger than I am, and I'm a Gen X founding member.

There are definitely funny jokes and a good bit of them manage to get a laugh from me. There are many that don't land at all. That's just the nature of a pre-2000s sitcom, really.

When your audience is 20 million instead of 2M (as we have today), you have to play things differently. Even The Office (which was relatively huge at the time) just pulled an average of around 7.5M

Friends was just okay to me. One day I had it on mute with the closed captions. The writing was awful and unfunny. No one would have laughed at it without a laugh track to cue them.

Friends is funny, I won’t say it’s not. But any time I catch it in syndication these days it’s far less funny than it was back in the day when it aired, and I find myself chuckling more out of nostalgia than because the humor is actually funny.

Obviously the high points of the show are still great (i.e. the trivia episode where they bet the apartments), but as a whole I find Friends has not aged as well as its 90s counterparts.

I have always enjoyed both. Friends is a great show and I’ve seen every episode.

I am not going to hate on either. They are both entertaining and that’s all that matters to me.

Flame on.

Love Seinfeld. Have a great sense of humor. Friends sucks. I’ve seen about three episodes and didn’t even crack a slight smile. Found it stupid and simple minded.
