Hot Take: Parks & Rec

I just finished a rewatch of Parks and Rec. I’ll rewatch it about once a year.
Now I love The Office and have rewatched it a ton as well. But really paying attention this time thru, I have to say I think Parks is an overall better run than The Office.
Every single character had a true arch and development. They made a mistake in season 1 trying to make Leslie the female Michael Scott but quickly course corrected. Andy goes from a buffoon to a real guy and dad. April, Tom, Donna, Ann, and Chris all grow. Rons arch is great. Ben and Leslie grow into real people.
The Biden stuff didn’t age well.
But most of all, there’s not a lull. The Office post Michael struggled for almost a full season to find its way. The final season took a min to get going and finished very strong. And there are individual episodes that are all time great.
But I find myself skipping around Office to watch certain episodes. Parks I can start and watch the whole way thru.

Parks and rec is the female ghostbusters version of the office

Ron Swanson is a female ghostbuster?
Take a hike.
Take a hike.

Both Parks and Rec and the office are great.
My thought has always been, after multiple rewatches of both, is that The Office had much better highs but much lower lows as well.
While Parks and Rec at its best want as good as the Office at its best, it was more consistent. I also find it more rewatchable than the Office as a whole.

I beat this drum all the time. Parks took about a season and a half to really hit it's stride but once it did it was A-tier the entire ride all the way to the end.
The office post Michael is at times truly unwatchable. Parks only really has one character that is so frickin awful it's hard to watch (the screaming gay person) while the office has a couple.
I think the office has some ever so SLIGHTLY higher highs, but also has some exponentially lower lows.
Not sure why parks is never really mentioned in the mainstream as standing alongside office as equals bc imo they definitely are.

I just love all the extra townspeople that come in and out of every show, gives a different vibe from The Office.

Yep, Parks has a ton of great side characters. I also love Tammy 2
I prefer the Office, but Parks is very consistent.

Btw, I agree 100%. This has been my opinion for years, but I’m also a huge Parks fan.

So it's a feel good series? It got worse as it went on and the end was syrupy bullshite. Ron Swanson didn't need an arc; he was a perfect character from the start. His emasculation was sad to watch.

Parks and Rec has better characters. Dwight, Michael and Kevin were amazing characters. Parks matches them with Ron, Andy, and April. The second tier characters of Parks is better IMO...not by a large margin, but a noticeable one.
Peak Office was funnier but Parks and Rec is a more consistent funny

I can watch both any time and prefer P&R due to more likable and redeemable characters. There also aren’t many real low spots for P&R except for the first season when they were trying to make Leslie a female Micheal Scott.
But I do find the office more rewatchable.

I also agree with this.

Probably this.

Side/bit characters go heavily P&R

Later seasons of the Office are just bad. I would say seasons 1 - 5 are consistently good, but 6-9 are a mess. Parks and Red is more consistently good, but it limited itself to 5 full seasons. It probably would have gone south if it had tried to stick around like the Office and try to replace Ron or Leslie.

The OP isn’t that hot if a take. They are both excellent shows.
This take however…
May be the worst ever.
