I'm old enough to remember when Libtards would say "build your own" when conservatives complained about censorship. I'm sure Colbert will kill like Joe Rogan on his new podcast. Kidding aside, Colbert's salary was massive and his show had about 200k nightly viewers in the 25-54 demographic. Those are mediocre YouTube numbers. There is going to be a lot of belt tightening at CBS after the merger with Skydance.

I imagine it looks something like this.

Remember this when the next Democratic POTUS is demanding something be canceled for “wrong” political views.

Dumb take! You are comparing Social Media to a National TV show. He got canceled because his show sucked.

You answered why he got canceled to begin with.

Not my style, but I do think he will have more edge and will be funnier now that he's off network TV.

Network TV is too manicured, too manufactured, and the lack of sincerity sticks out like a sore thumb. It's a relic of the Cold War that still hasn't found an answer to youtube.

Put out a lineup of with the likes of The Office/30 Rock/Parks and Rec and maybe I'll stick around for propaganda hour w/ the late night hosts.

Maybe. All of these shows suck. Paramount is in desperate cost cutting mode, which would have been the case with or without the fcc holdup of the sale.

Paramount (owner of CBS) appears to be the first network to decide that monetized YouTube and social media clips don't justify the high costs of producing the late night show.

Great!

frick that dude. He should try to do a show with Rachel Maddow to capitalize on the opportunity for a few more viewers who love that shite.

See Colbert was always an odd choice for me, he was good playing that character on the report but outside of that he’s always been meh. I can’t say I watched very often but anytime I did it t was really bad and not due to TDS, the material and his delivery were just dull.

To me, Kimmel is one that was actually funny at one point but let politics completely consume him, even before Trump. Colbert was a guy that played one character really well but lacked the personality to carry a nightly show

I was always surprised that they could have 4 identical shows on 4 channels at the same time slot. I guess the standard for minimum ratings has changed quite a bit in recent years.

show costs more than $100M a year to produce

How does it cost this much to produce 2 people talking when someone in Mississippi can do it for $500 a year?

And be a helluva lot funnier, too.

He was never funny once he stopped his conservative shtick. Trump completely broke him. Still, strange to see he got cancelled.

The Colbert Report was hilarious. I knew it was a shtick, but I still looked forward to what he’d do on late night. His entire run was dominated by Trump and it go very tiresome very fast.

Exactly how I feel. I loved the Colbert Report and even bought his book. I was excited when he got late night, but like you, was pretty disappointed at the angle he took for the show. He could have done so well too because he had great comedic chops from Colbert Report and Daily Show. But he was just so insufferably pompous / smug in Late Night. I just don’t understand why he would want to make the show so different than what Letterman accomplished in that spot.

Daily Mail

Wow. Colbert was losing 40M a year and his show was the best of the bunch. Sounds like Kimmel is probably next.

have to say I loved his bits on Daily show with Carell and then when he was host. I thought it was just about the funniest thing on TV. He had cool, old , music guests as well. Never could get into his CBS gig.

Disney isn't in the financial situation that Paramount is.

The president probably isn't your best source on this.

I loved the Colbert Report. I can't even fathom the type of idiot that would watch that self righteous dick head these days. Good riddance and laugh all the way too the bank.
