As someone who plays fairly decent chess (~1600'ish), they do a pretty good job in that department,.
Pretty good is better than most.
Every time I watch a show/movie about something I know about it’s painful to watch normally.

Finished it last night. What a phenomenal show. When she sees Mr. Schibels newspaper clippings was a very wholesome scene.

I didn’t find her too attractive, which I think actually played better in my brain. She’s certainly not ugly though.
I just thought when she was portrayed around 20 or so, when in Paris, NY, and Russia, I just found her to be striking. Legit made me think of Aubrey Hepburn (sp?).
But regardless and not to diminish the actress, I thought she was phenomenal. The star or the show for sure. Great performance.
And all the supporting players were great. Probably the best show I’ve seen this year.

I absolutely loved that scene. I may have shed a tear or two when she lost it in the car a few moments later.

Everyone I know who's watched the show has commented that she was weird looking.
IDk, I found her attractive but there is something off that are brains naturally reject. We like symmetry. Maybe her eyes are too far apart...don't know...now I sound like Seinfeld.
She looked good in the show though.

I thought she was beautiful, in the classic sense not the Instagram thot type of attractiveness. As someone so astutely noted earlier in the thread, she was able to get a whole simp army behind her.

She definitely has a non-conventional look due to her big eyes or whatever. And I didn’t find her all that appealing in Peaky Blinders, despite her playing more of a whorish character in that series. But I found her incredibly attractive in Queen’s Gambit - and her eyes were what made her beauty so engrossing. The red hair didn’t hurt either. I found myself googling her photos after watching. In a non-pervy way, of course. Seriously...I was just tucking my shirt in.

Really strong show. Ended up binge watching it in one day. My fav of 2020.
Will agree with others that the lead went from awkward and gangly to absolutely stunning by time she landed in Moscow.
Whoever did the costume and fashion work for her is going to get some accolades. Classic, elegant 60’s chic. My teenage daughter is already looking for clothes that resemble Beth’s. As a parent of a teen; given her options I’m really okay with this. LOL

Glad I am not the only one that simply couldn't stop watching.

Has she seen The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? The clothes are a few years older but caused a lot of stir among the female fashionistas.

She has some great clothes.
I'm determined to find the brown pointed toe flats she has in the last couple of episodes.

I'm at the end of episode 3 and I'm very bored. I'm giving it one more episode before I bail. I feel stupid for not liking it, since everyone is raving over it.

The show is great. Music is outstanding.
Loved the use of classical gas.

That is why there are Fords and Chevrolets. I expected even more people to dislike the slow burn aspect, and I am honestly surprised at the lopsided view of the series. From a 30,000 foot view it seems to have less bredth than many movies 1/3rd the length, Forrest Gump came to mind. By that I mean after watching FG it seems you have seen far more of his life.
Honestly, if you haven't been pulled in by a pre-teen benzo-addicted orphan who is also a chess prodigy this may indeed not be your thing, further, if her first chess tournament didn't finally draw you into the story I am not sure this is worth your time. If you are starving for things to watch keep going but if you have a good queue then it may indeed be time to move on.

I loved it but everyone is different. If your not into it by now it may not be your type of show.
Do you like The Crown? Because I find this show is similar in style for some reason. I’ve been telling people that I know enjoy the Crown that they would like this.
And they both are about a subject that I never cared to know anything about.

It was just a really well done series all around. Good acting from the lead and from the supporting cast, a good storyline, great period feel via costuming, soundtrack and settings, and a nice tight and complete narrative.

I actually really enjoy the Crown and I plan on binging it tomorrow.
I'm going to continue to watch TQG. Episode 4 picked up, a bit.

Just finished it. It's fantastic binge-worthy series.
Did anyone else notice there were an unusual number of redheads cast early on? Harmon, her mom, the orphanage director, orphanage teacher, high school teacher, etc..

Great show that has plenty of great chess jargon commonly used throughout games and chats around the world every day. Was good to see it not dumbed down too much something both players and provisionals can enjoy equally i believe. Would have liked to see one draw in Moscow to make it more representative of a normal tournament where draws are very common especially when a top player has black.
Judit Polgar is the greatest woman chess player of all time IMHO.
