re: You can't trade Zion

Of course you can, anyone can be traded. The decision is pretty simple, does Zion want to be here? I have my opinion on this, however say he states he does, what he has to realize is there is accountability to the organization, that pays him millions, he has to adhere to.
Your actions have to line-up with your retoric. You can't say "I want to be playing with my teammates", and then when injured gain 30lbs delaying your return (... what was his weight when he re-injured his hamstring?). You don't make your return/non-return the focal point of the team when they are making a play-off push. You can't be duplicitous and on one hand say you're committed to the organization and then, not publically but on the sly, adhere to your "camps" directions.
This is untenable and if he doesn't start backing his words with his actions, or doesn't want the blow-back of requesting a trade and is doing childish things like throwing down windmill dunks in pre-game warmups before a play-in game, then the team should make the decision for him.

Do you think BI can be that guy for the Pels? I honestly don’t know…sometimes I think so, but I really come up with a solid “maybe”
As a #1 guy no. I love BI, one of my favorite players but I think he is a really good #2. Like a pascal siakam, klay Thompson, kyrie Irving level number 2 options on a title team. With Zion being the kawhai, curry, Lebron level #1 option.

I said before you have to run this back one more year and hope.
That said - I will be very interested to see how Zion handles this offseason from a PR perspective. Does he engage at all with the media, let the cameras in on his work outs/conditioning, show up for team activities?
If the answer is no and Zion is largely MIA during the offseason I think we’ll know the long term answer regarding his commitment to being a star for New Orleans.

The only way we have any chance of competing for a title is with Zion
I disagree. The '04 Pistons won without a true elite superstar. That model can work at a place like New Orleans with the right coach. If Zion doesn't want to be here, I am ok with trading him.

Would you trade Zion for Markkanan and Kessler (plus whatever makes it work
Woukd be a hard pill to swallow considering we could have traded Ball for Lauri not once but twice. And to give up Zion for him now???

I don't think that model works ANYWHERE in the current NBA. The sheer starpower in the current league is likely too much to make it so- the player movement and propensity of stars to play together makes me very confident that the era of not needing a star to win it all is over with.

So our model should be to copy something that hasnt happened in 20 years? Don't you think it should be to copy situations like the bucks and raptors who just wons titles recently and arent in glamorous markets?

Outlier. Will probably never happen again.

BI & Trey, not saying they're horrible defenders, but you're not building an all time good defense with those 2 guys playing 36 minutes, so that Pistons model is not realistic.

With Zion we were 15-10
Without Zion we were 27-30
So the question is what do you besides pray Zion stays healthy?
Healthy Zion makes us an top 4 team
Jn the west.
Without him we weren’t a fringe payoff team we were a miss the play in games level team who had an enough wins to barely get in.
So what do we do with him?

You stand pat and hope for health. Thats our best option even if no one wants to hear it.

No question - BI and Trey have to become above average defensive players for this team to really move forward. BI, Trey and Herb on the court have to be a capable defensive grouping almost regardless of who the other two guys are.

We’re not going to trade him for a superstar or a top 3 draft pick.
We aren’t getting an insane package for him.
And what are our Chances of landing a huge FA with the money we’d save?

You hold him accountable or trade him. I'd like for him to stay ideally, but don't see a real commitment from him (wtf was the dunk show for yesterday afternoon in front of the national media?). And for all the doomsayers who predict the bottom dropping out if you let him go, I'd counter the Pels would have been a playoff team if they had a JaMychal Green in place as a backup 4.

No, we really don’t have to ride with him. The pos has caused obvious discourse in the locker room and doesn’t play. He obviously doesn’t want to be here. He will never get from under his family’s tit. It’s a pretty easy decision….trade him.

Idk if this is tru.
It’s obviouse we aren’t close to as good without him.

trading him means you are getting 43 cents on the dollar
The risk is that if next season is a repeat injury shite show like the last 2 years, then his value plummets from 43 cents on the dollar to 2 cents on the dollar.

quote:This right here. We are a playoff bubble team without him. Whatever you get for him will be bonus on top that. He don’t play. And there is no signs he is gonna play consistently in the future.
You’re not blowing up the team if he really isn’t a part of it anyway. All he is today is a distraction and a show on the end of the bench. 43 cents isn’t going to more valuable next year.

give me a couple of top 15-20 players vs. 1 top 5-10 player EVERY DAY of the week...
