Not saying this is how I end up doing everyone else's job everywhere I work.
I was currently hired in one department, and now work for 3 departments and do extra projects for my boss. Whoops
Probably still getting 70 cents on the dollar compared to your fellow male secretaries. The gender pay gap is a travesty.

And here's another wake-up call: if someone has a "Director" or even "Senior Manager" title, they probably have a significant ownership stake in the business.
Define ownership stake. I might agree if you mean simply owning some stock in the company.
I've worked for a very large global corporation for the last 20 years and know hundreds of directors, senior managers, and VPs, none of which I would consider having an "Ownership Stake" in the company beyond owning some stock.

I bet you’re fat.
I'm not exactly Calista Flockhart, but I am far from medically obese and I ran 3 miles this morning.

I am. Almost all of us are simply cogs in the machine, whether you like it or not.
And I do it at a rate of pay commensurate with making many large decisions, but not above ownership directives

No one at the privately owned business I work for has an ownership stake except the family... not even the C level folks.
Yeah, there's a lot of different frameworks for this stuff. It's funny watching someone in one particular type speak in generalities and make goofy "proclamations from on high," as if that would apply everywhere.

I guess owning a share or two of stock doesn't count. I'm thinking of a level of ownership where you don't need scientific notation to calculate the size of your piece of the pie, and you stand to make a lot of money if the company is sold- the old "golden parachute."

What do you do? What are the facts?
Your lack of context converts this tripe to babbling.

That's kind of the misconception I am talking about. This shite that I got told was already "decided by people above all of our pay grades" is actually something I could nip in the bud with a phone call. Will I use that power? Probably not. I use it maybe once every year or two, when some bad idea is really going to impact me or my team negatively. However, the premise that some unyielding decision has been made by someone with dictatorial control over me is 100% false.

At my last job, we would sell projects that were basically impossible to complete. Figuring out how to execute them was “above my pay grade.”

I only work part time but in my job I tie up a lot of loose ends and complete things that aren’t in my job description
Complaining about it is above my pay grade

Not true at all. It's a bonus thing.
Do your job and control what you can control.

You know what is funny? When you own the business but people treat you like the copy guy.

I like to say “that’s above my pay grade” to underlings about menial tasks. Did someone from the c suite use that one on you?

Right, because all female office workers are just secretaries. I forgot.

This all seems like an issue for HR. Have you sent an email to Margaret in employee relations and filled out the requisite TPS form?

1. Lower level employees with no stake absolutely are lambs being lead by upper management.
2.
wait so your saying directors don’t have authority to make unilateral decisions? Almost like some things are above their pay grade.

You may not realize it at your "pay grade" but all owners have a seat at the table. Legally, ethically, and per accounting standards, none of us have the absolute authority to "pull rank" on each other, whatever the org charge might say. So GTFO with your little cliche.
