It doesn’t benefit anyone except the people who would initially control it until they inevitably lose control and cause unimaginable consequences to the entire species.
Outside of limited areas such as drug development and tech advancements the upside is questionable and the potential downside is and I say this without being hyperbolic the likely end of the entire species.
Even if we don’t end ourselves, we will in fact displace 60-80% of all human workers within a generation.
Support is in the 20s.
The only logical move for all parties is to ban it like nuclear testing and research it in a controlled way if at all.
The only reason it’s happening is to benefit a handful of people with God complexes and because the military people feel they want to own it before their enemies do.
It would be the worst decision in human history and quite possibly end us all.

Good luck stopping it. It’s too profitable to ignore and the people running these companies don’t give af about the average American person and how this affects them.

What is happening in AI isn't even in the same universe as the horses, buggy whip, industrial revolution, automobile, electricity, wheel, fire, or Internet arguments.

And the time to address it in a serious way was decades ago. It's already too late to stop. The corporate and international arms race is one no side believes they can afford to stop, even for a day. The progress is that fast.
You have one group that's clueless about what's happening and another that's just flat out in denial.

My wife discovered the grok app and how it can turn photos into short clips. She uploaded a photo of us and used the word romantic to generate of short clip. The video was of me grabbing her tits, mugging down with her. We laughed but it is fricked up typing in romantic and in turn getting the start of a sex scene.

Honestly our entire economic system is built on growth to function properly. Ever increasing government spending by local, state, and national simply requires it.
Basically a pyramid scheme that.. in the past and present.. requires population growth. This is why Europe opened the flood gates to immigration, they had stagnant population growth. It was a well known issue. They polished that turd to make it seem something else but they needed more workers and consumers.
Ai is going to change things. There are numerous theories that at some point most businesses will be government owned and Ai, robots, automation, will handle most jobs. People will no longer work but be given money/credits, etc.. to live on by the government.

This is a major problem that needs fixing regardless of AI. Every single economic decision is made to produce "growth" which is obviously unsustainable.
Why so many companies go bankrupt. Almost every single company is swimming in debt because they take out huge loans trying to expand and grow. Nobody is happy just being a profitable company.
