Don't they already have that little boutique hotel across from Spoonbill?

The council must have held back some money from the developer, your money, they are illegally taxing you. Avoid these tax districts.
Check out the holes in the district they made so you wouldn't get to vote.

Five of the six new economic development districts, which Robideaux proposed in late November, would increase the sales tax within their boundaries by 1% and hotel occupancy taxes by 2%. The Trappey district would have a 2% increase in sales tax.
State law allows local governments to create these districts and to levy up to a 2% sales tax, a 2% hotel occupancy tax, a five mill increase in property tax, or any combination of the three. The districts require a vote of the governing body and any registered voters residing in these districts.
But each of the six districts is drawn to exclude the surrounding area’s registered voters, who would be entitled to vote on the proposals should their residences fall inside the districts.

As long as I've lived in Lafayette, they've tried to make downtown attractive. No matter how much money they throw at it, it never seems to grow and take off organically. At some point you gotta give up and let the homeless take over.

“It’s the right time…,” says Cliff Guidry. “We have proof that we can do it,” as Guidry references a recent project in Alabama, Atlas condominiums, which sold 38 units in 5.5 months, totaling $66 million, before breaking ground on the project.

Those million dollar condos weren’t getting much interest apparently. Now it’ll just be a hotel and random offices.

Update: This has gone from 2 towers, to 1 tower, to no tower.
I wonder if any of those $600k+ condos ever got any interest.

Signs promoting a high-rise development next to Lafayette’s federal courthouse are gone, but the developer says he still hopes to move forward with development projects downtown.
SEVEN16 was initially proposed as two, 20-story towers featuring parking garages, commercial space, a hotel, and condominiums.
ATC reached out to developer Clifton D. Guidry, owner of Guidry Land Development, who released this statement about the SEVEN16 project.
“SEVEN16 is assessing other downtown locations that [are] more in the heart of the downtown activity. We have tenants that are staying onboard as we look for a new location. Multiple offers have been made on various properties.”

I was skeptical at best, then knew it was practically impossible when they released their rates on a 1 bed/1 bath condo started at $600,000 and went up to $2.4 million
Speaking of lofty downtown projects..
I haven't been downtown in a couple months but wanted to see how the apartments at the old courthouse(The Lofts at the Municipal) were coming along. I see they're partially open and now accepting tenants. Holy shite! They start at a 1/1 372 sqft studio for $735/month and go as high as $1635 for a 1064sqft 1/1.

I always noticed the downtown seemed like they went out of their way to not make tall buildings or build densely.
The plan was for Lafayette to grow to the north. That’s why I-10 is outside of the city and to the north.
Eventually urban centers like Opelousas were supposed to be suburbs of Lafayette. But the oil industry took the city further south towards the Gulf.

I was kinda hoping they would build it cause that render is the most godawful thing I’ve seen.
