One time I went around a railroad crossing arm in Baton Rouge with 4 more cars following me. The 4th car was a Baton Rouge police car which pulled us all over and wrote out tickets.
An option was that I could pay the ticket and attend some kind of boring class and not have the ticket appear on my insurance.
Yeah, I took the class.

Bribe a DA to have it fixed.

Call your DA. Get an Article 894.
OP do not have him do this for a speeding ticket.
You can have him do pre-trail diversion if you want, but under no circumstances should a teen waste an 894 on a speeding ticket. 894 should be saved for small misdemeanors and DWIs

it's as simple as calling the clerk's office and ask if there's anything you can do to have this downgraded to a non-moving violation, all they want is the money

You only get one 894.
Not correct.
You get 1 every 5 years for misdemeanors (with some exceptions) and 1 every 10 years for DWI.

Thanks for the clarification.

I agree. This is somewhat dependent on the area though. Some you can call and have them reduce to a non-moving violation for the same amount you would have paid for the speeding ticket. But some of the areas are hell bent on keeping it as a speeding ticket.
But it never hurts to call and ask. Going in person to talk to them with cash in hand also can work to people's advantage.

Don’t just plead guilty and pay it because if you do that it will go on his insurance record.
Go talk to the DA and see if you can get it dismissed or reduced to a non moving violation or at worst, plead under an article that keeps it off his record.
As far as the methods to reduce the costs, that varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, court to court.

My son got one in Ascension a couple months ago. I contacted them, and he did an online driving test that took him about 15 minutes. He avoided having to go to court and it was reduced to a non-moving violation.

Wondering if Louisiana has a program where he can attend a driving course or some such thing to help remediate the costs, especially to insurance.
It varies by district, city, parish, etc
Call the number on ticket and ask

I had to bail hay for a judge to get my DL back in high school

OK, I’m no help but I do encourage you to simply reach out to the DA and ask for assistance. Let them know he’s a good kid just has a lead foot and you are bringing the hammer down on him.

Just write the DA a letter, saying that he doesn’t think he was going that fast, but if they will reduce to non-moving violation, you will pay the fine. I wrote hundreds of these letters when I was in Alexandria. Never got a no. They just want the money.

Don't burn an 894 for a speeding ticket. Call the DA and get it reduced to a non-moving and pay fine. Most will do it because they just want the revenue.

How much of an idiot does your son have to be to get a speeding ticket in this state? I feel like cops are hardly ever out writing tickets for speeding these days, hence why everyone drives like hooligans around here now.
Man, I don’t know where you drive, but every small town in Louisiana has a speed trap set up in some bushes immediately behind the speed limit sign….
