Not the same, but similar ...

I have a friend of mine who is going to purchase a 5th wheel (I believe that is what they are called). Around $70K after it is all said and done.

8 to 9 % is the going rate to finance it. For 20 years.

He said most people never hold onto them for 20 years, so this is why focusing on the payment is important.

Not my money, not my decision, and not my worry.

Cr$pper tracker white river marine, makes money off the boat and financing. Ranger now just a fancy Nitro as they are made by white river marine group.

Seems like a good deal for Johnny Morris.

Well it catches the fish for you basically, and it comes with a nice real tittied no tattoo stripper that doesn’t talk. At least that’s what I assume is included

Relatively new thing for "normal" small boats. It's commonplace now.

So much so that boattrader.com lists a 20 year loan as their "standard" payment terms.

It's the only way they can sell those $180k bay boats to "normal" people.

Ain't dat motor only jes' a tad bit big fer dat 13'-0" Gheenoe High Sider? I b'lieve they's only rated fer 5HP on the 13' foot models, 10HP on the 15'-4", an' 25HP on the Classic and Lo-Tide 25 models. That's jes' a flamboyant show of too much money raht there! (But I'd shore lahk to ride in it!)

Bay boats were already high AF a few years ago and COVID seems to have made them all jump $20-40K. Seems like 8 year notes are the norm now on boats so I could see suckers going for a 20 year note.

We just bought early this year and got less boat for the same money as we could have a year prior

I’m not a boat owner, and I had no idea. Obviously I knew that sailboats and larger boats can cost a lot of money. But the bass boats, ski boats, etc.? Damn.

To be fair with todays boat prices, they boats simply aren’t the same as 15-20 years ago as far as accessories go.

Used to be a $500 depthfinder, $500 trolling motor, and an anchor is all you really had. Now guys have 2 power poles, $5,000 in a single electronic is easy and some guys have 2-3, $4,000 trolling motor, etc.

You can buy a new boat equipped with 1995 type of equipment for fairly decent price still.

Imagine just paying off a boat you bought when W was in his first term and Nick Saban hadn’t yet won a NC.

Who are these people that can be plop down $340,000 for a ski boat? Because the tatted up white Oakley roid heads I see in these can't possibly be paying for them.

They're all over Lake Austin. Usually a 17-18 year old kid driving it (assuming the parents paid for it) but there are some cheaper boat brands, Axis, Tige, ATX, etc. and you can get into one for around $100-150k brand new. All they see is the monthly payment and don't realize they're buying the same boat 3x over.

I see a lot of people on local Facebook groups who bought them and rent them out to make the note but that's a house of cards which is gonna come crashing down. Rental market is oversaturated now.

The fact that they can be financed for that long is the real tragedy.

I guess people are paying that for Range Rovers. But at least the RR is something you use every day.

You’d hope to use it every day, but most RRs are the land-based broken, money pit equivalent of a boat.

Yep. It's why so many average people have six figure sailboats.

There are LOTS of +$100k boats being sold on 20 year terms with little down. It's part of the reason the pricing is so outrageous. Why not charge it if people are paying it?
