Nobody gives a shite about the winter Olympics.
The only person casual Americans even halfway knew is out of it as well. She's basically just entering for the exposure at this point.

Winter Olympics were always second class. Summer Olympics have gone down in popularity, so no surprise winter is now bottom of the barrel.

No hype? Clearly you don’t have kids in elementary school

Not enough black representation for ESPN and other channels to get hyped about it.

Live TV commercials are not really relevant anymore.

Do you watch any NBC shows or Peacock? Aside from Sunday night football I couldn't even tell you what their programming is anymore.
Exactly. NBC has been running teaser ads for months now, but unless you're watching their networks, you won't notice. Competition for eyeballs is just bigger than back in the day.
I think contributing to that is the dwindling hype from other forms of media. Years ago, every magazine from Newsweek to TV Guide did Olympic previews and introduced storylines to watch for. Companies featured more athletes in commercials and print ads, too. You couldn't avoid it. That world doesn't exist anymore.

It’s mostly all white people so the media doesn’t want to hype it
I always hear this argument but a shite ton of white people win medals at the summer olympics and that’s not even counting the Chinese medalists.

I'm an Olympics nut, but both summer and winter have dropped off in importance as there are just too many other sports competing for eyes that were not there back in the 70s-90s when the games were must-see.
There don't seem to be any compelling stories this olympics, nor personalities like a Shaun White. American women used to have at least one star figure skater certain to win gold. I don't even know who made our team.
Other than Lindsey Vonn, I don't really have an interest in any athlete this time, and now that she's limping into the games, she may be lucky to just complete her run.
I'll watch it because football is over, but it's never going to be what it once was....like most other sports unfortunately. Was there anything better than Jim McCay hosting every night or his outstanding work at Munich?

The other reason for its drop off is the fall of national pride. Today’s youth have been taught to be proud to be an American makes you a bigot and our history is evil. What used to make people proud, now makes them ashamed.
What a time to be alive…

I keep seeing they start Friday, but aren't there actual events today and tomorrow as well?

Old boomer white peolple. My kids have never asked me about the Olympics and they are in high school.
because your kids and that generation are only worried about tik tok and the internet 24/7. They are addicted to social media and have no life.

I’ve heard radio ads promoting the opening ceremonies

How have you not seen this commercial? This will get your juices flowing.

I'm an olympics mark, but the winter games seem to be slowly dying.
Not having the summer and winter games the same year was probably a mistake. I think they believed they'd get double the interest and coverage but instead, have one big games and another that gets lost.

The Olympics are about Patriotism and national pride during competition ..,this goes directly against the liberal agenda doesn’t it??? They hate seeing the American Flag waving and hearing the Star Spangled Banner being played…why would they promote that???
