From my understanding chip plants have a huge lead time. Like 3 years plus. That’s a long time withoutbTP.

Democrats hate this country. They say it openly, all the time.

We don't have the capacity to replace what we would lose from China. With investment, we could have it in a few years. China will never let that happen and will turn up the spigot to prevent it.

So you think all chips are made in China or that China dominates global chip manufacturing? Or do you believe that reality is real?
The reality is Taiwan is a part of China. If you don't believe that you are the one not living in reality.

Yep. They'd flood the market making it unprofitable to make them here short of tariffs. So, no one builds a big arse chip plant.
And we know these clowns are not going to tariff imports.

What’s shortsighted from China’s stand point is that we are still the world’s food basket. Unfortunately, our leaders don’t have the courage to let them starve.
Posted on 9/15/21 at 11:43 pm to bluestem75
That's the answer. Cut off our chips One Hung Low. We can live without those longer than you can do without food.

Trump strong armed the Taiwanese to build capacity in the US. TSMC started construction on a $12B plant in Phoenix earlier this year. They’ve already announced plans to add fabs on this site, as many as six more over the next 7 years. Samsung has $17B fab going up either in AZ or TX (not sure if they’ve announced where). Intel is putting $20B into two new fabs on its Chandler (AZ) campus where they already operate 4 fabs, the newest starting up only last year.
I live in the Phoenix area so am familiar with all of this, but I’m sure Phoenix isn’t the only place seeing this kind of chip mfg development.

We have equipment just today that we dodged a bullet on perhaps.
The board that fried was inside an encoder on a servo instead of the control.panel.
If it was in the panel the board spare that we didn't have (we have most boards spared on site) then it would be two weeks minimum before the vendor could even get them to try to supply us.
Two weeks down for a board. The unit capacity would instantly go to 50% if not more.

and them the dumber then a box of rocks Biden will walk like a gaping retarded giraffe to a podium and say, listen folks, we have a great new reset.
it may even be cackle laugh by the time they crash the economy completely.

Hence the Chinese "liberation" of Taiwan that is inevitable.

When you start putting chips in everything, including a can opener, this shite is bound to happen.

Chips and capital investment of large magnitude need long term market assurance that whatever the venture it will be in business long enough to pay the bills. When an incoming *president issues 30 executive orders that completely reverses the previous admin. policy, when Antifa and blm can turn violence on and off for a concise 3 month summer, when after 25 years of global warming harping the scientists are not understanding, when the commander of the largest army in the world leaves 80 billion dollars of equip in enemy hands, when fauchi funds the wuflu research, when mayors and school boards are requiring masks for an incomprehensible cdc directive, trillion dollars inflationary budgets, open borders for unvaccinated, Lgtqrsbiu sexes are written into medical books , etc, etc, basically the us is screwed. No one is thinking further than the next news cycle. the rest of the folks are not thinking at all. No one will invest private money that can anticipate needs.
To fix it? teach the bell curve to all high school students

have customers in California that have gone to the shore and looked at shipping containers through binoculars two miles out knowing their product is on that ship and still know it’s two months out. They just supply the crew by speed boats. Trust me, Gavin Newsom is the talk of the town in my industry. This is 80% his doing and fricking over a large portion of the country.
Are you saying that Newsom is personally preventing needed supplies from reaching American shores? How and why?

Not sure if they are intentionally fricking with us or if they are having their own issues. Based off the discussions about the real estate corporation that is having major problems over there, their issues may be that they were heavily involved with building China’s ghost cities and got stiffed by China for it. That may be one of the first shoes to drop in the Chinese economy, which has been referred to as a house of cards for a while now.
Quality post right here. China is in a fricking pickle, only way out may be war.

Great insight. Now we TSMC to get their facilities certified foundries.

A free market solves these problems. There’s no need to subsidize industries.

Social distancing and the fact that people can’t hire enough people to unload the fricking ships.
