with the exceptions of Russia or China
I can’t see a scenario where this happens. Russia has no aims outside of keeping NATO away from their borders any more than it already is. China trades with Greenland and if they haven’t made a play on Taiwan yet then Greenland seems less than likely.

Their strategy is hypersonic nuclear armed missiles, just as it is with the US. No one uses them because mutual annihilation is assured. It would take ~10 minutes for (either side’s) missiles to hit using the arctic route, not to mention the strike capabilities of B2’s and subs. The US has satellites that can detect if there is any hint of nuclear intentions.

Meanwhile Iran, Russia, and China are sitting back laughing.

Iran is in shambles, the banks are failing and economy has crashed and the regime is about to come to an end

Russia is bogged down in a costly war with Ukraine that they started years ago that was supposed to take only two weeks and has proved the mighty Russian Bear is a farce

China just lost billions in loans to Venezuela after we took the oil and removed their puppet tinpot dictator

I can assure you they are not laughing

Louisanna Purchase from French in 1803 for 15 million
US bought Alaska from Russia in 1867 for 7.2 million
US purchased Virgin Islands from Denmark in 1917 for 25 million, so why all the fuss about Greenland.

Greenland has rare earth materials that will allow us to be less reliant on China.

North America has more rare earth metals than Greenland that are easier to extract. Using REM's as an invasion excuse is nothing buy lies.

It’s strategic acquisition. Not much different than having a savings/investment account for the future while using credit/checking for real time upkeep.

Plus, it keeps those metals out of the hands of adversaries. It’s a logical move from an economic and security perspective

Trump has a history of throwing people under the bus if they become a problem or PR issue. Denmark shouldn't think that something they did for another president 20+ years ago will sway Trump.

rare earth materials

Rare earths are byproducts of other types of mining. They aren't particularly rare. Their rarity comes from the fact that they're very energy intensive and environmentally damaging to refine.

Unfortunately your sky screaming doesn’t work as well as it did early last year. Made a small fortune in the stock market trading the tariff will end world trade shenanigans.

Please work harder to trick your fellow retards into panicking, I would greatly appreciate it ;)

Rare earths aren't rare. The West has just let China do the processing because its environmentally nasty. So keeping the REM's out of adversaries isn't a good reason, for those who bother to look.

We have full access to Greenland's natural resources if we want them. Greenland has complete control and say over its natural resources wholly independent of Denmark. There has been minimal interest from the US private sector in spending the billions of dollars it will take to develop and mine for those resources.

There's been limited geological and geophysical resource assessment in Greenland, mostly coastal as its center land mass is covered by 2 miles of ice. Greenland will be 80% covered by thick ice through the end of the century.

The Labrador Sea between Greenland and Canada has been exploratory drilled by the French, dry holes.

Any rare earth minerals in Greenland are likely covered in thick ice, any easily accessible have not yet been discovered, and would require smelting operations in Greenland to extract. Too expensive to cargo ship vast piles of rocks to a smelting factory outside Greenland. The process is dirty and polluting, can be greatly improved, all it takes is billions of dollars.

China has no monopoly on rare earth source rocks, they monopolize the extraction process because they don't give a frick about the pollution issues.

Denmark answered the call of its ally after 9/11 and deployed thousands of troops to Afghanistan (Iraq, too, for that matter). Denmark lost more soldiers per capita in defense of America than any other NATO country (aside from the U.S.). We are friends with Denmark, to the incalculable benefit of both. Threatening to invade your friends is not the American way. It is what Russia would do, frankly.

This is how our brilliant, hard working government employees think, folks.

That’s fair, I didn’t know that.

I’ll reframe my opinion then - utilize Greenland for the processing of said metals. It is better to have a contingency plan than rely on China to do it for us. They can shut the spigot off then we have a much larger geopolitical issue to deal with than acquiring Greenland

Screw Hitler then for not being a better ally. Don't care. At the end, who arrived in Berlin ? US and Soviet troops. Who showed up at the Yalta Conference?

It's an extreme comparison because Greenland has no real ties to Denmark. What's best for them, US partnership or Denmark? Seems the people are ready to choose for themselves.

Why does that bother certain folks so much?
