I went to the El conquistador resort many years ago and it was fantastic
Ive stayed there. Its right outside Fajardo on the Northeast side of the island.
That resort is fantastic. You have to ferry to a private island to have a "beach" but its a very underrated vacation spot.

Roosevelt Roads was Navy and closed in 90s. Ramey was USAF and closed earlier. I actually lived on the base at Roosevelt Roads for almost 4 years.
Juana Diaz near Ponce had Fort Allen, a Navy communications base as did Sabana Seca, near San Juan.

ep...the AFB closed, but we do still have 3 ANG bases there. We also have:
1 Naval Base - Roosevelt Roads Naval Station
1 Army Base - Fort Buchanan US Army Facility

I know the guys who purchased the old navy base in San Juan where they had the listening stations to hunt for soviet activity in the area. It's a business park now with a starlink ground station.
About 30% was sold to the public in 2006. In October 2025, photos show ed that Naval Station Roosevelt Roads was reactivated. Satellite images and on-site photos reveal aircraft and personnel operating from the base, including at least one USAF AC-130J "Ghostrider" gunship equipped with Hellfire missiles parked at José Aponte de la Torre Airport, which serves the installation.

What was difficult about that for you? Don't cry about my use of ilk when you're coming at me with "you people."

America loves welfare states: Puerto Rico, Guam, Hawaii, soon to be Greenland.
Cut them all loose.
Cut them all loose.

quote:I went 2 times in the late 90s. Stayed El San Juan and then the Ritz. Both hotels essentially prevented guests from walking out onto the beach at night, with armed guards standing at those entrances.
When did you go and where did you stay?
I took in a cockfighting match across the street which was barbaric.
Yes, yes El Yunque and Vieques are great and all, but you can see such landscapes in many other places that are less shitty.

chatgpt sez murder rate for Puerto Rico is 3 times the us national average.
sez Ponce crime incident rate is severe, 1 in 15 chance of an individual getting hurt killed or robbed each year. For my family of 5 that meant 1 in 3 chance each year

We need to give them their independence.
Just completely cut them loose and don't even ask them.

No wonder why progressives love them so much.

Ramey AFB. It was on the far NW point of the Island. Lots of spy shite pointed at Cuba

Fair enough. I like Isla Verde and have never felt unsafe there but have never walked the beach at night. The gem is the west side of the island. We stayed in Rincon last fall in a house that was between steps beach and domes beach. Snorkeling crystal clear water right off the beach without another person within 200 yards.

We should give them their independence and be done.
