They cant leave. Their property will be worthless. Who's buying it?
The sad reality is the immigrants have been quietly moving in to red states, and they will reproduce like wildfire

Louisiana is in real danger because it is “fake” red. The Yankees and the trial lawyers here will fall in love with each other.

hat is the reason why Dems insisted on increasing the SALT deduction.
No one in their right mind is paying 60% in taxes. With the right deductions, you are lucky if they are paying an effective tax rate of under 40% and if they are really wealthy and steer earnings into business income or other tax shelters, you are lucky if they have an effective tax rate of 10-20%. That is why you have a good accountant to do your taxes.
I understand that. But the taxes are why New Yorkers are fleeing the state. Florida and Texas are the two top escape routes for those people. No state tax here in the Lone Star. I pay roughly 2% of my homes appraised value to various outfits (schools, hospitals, the county) and we just passed an increase to our homestead exemption. So the first 140K is not taxed. You know how we can do that? Because we let the businesses pay.

I think a lot of them will just move to other parts of NY state.
Very few will do this. As others have pointed out, in response, NY State still has high taxes. More importantly, people who love living in a giant bustling city are not going to move to rural areas. They will primarily move to Miami, Dallas Austin and Houston to get zero state income taxes. Atlanta and Charlotte will pick up a lot too.

Florida ended up with like a 1.5 million people swing to the right.
Funny how that coincided with DeSantis cleaning up the voting nonsense.

I'm not buying into this mass migration of people from New York just yet. Mamdani cannot make laws by himself. The city council of New York passes the laws, and there are 51 city councilmen. New York will always be liberal New York. It may change some, but not much, regardless of what Mamdani said during his campaign.

Yep, they will move to conservative states and spread their poison there.

He is proposing a 58.6% increase on corporate taxes (from 7.25 to 11.5) the highest in the entire US. He is also proposing a 2% tax on those earning more than 1 million per year.
Those making 1 million or more per year ARE THE SAME PEOPLE who own or run the aforementioned corporations.
Yes I think this double whammy would lead a lot of companies to say its a bridge to far and move......and take all those corporate jobs with them.

If California can tax '"Expatriates"' for 5 years, I believe states could put limits on voting for just as many.

Florida man here. Every time I meet some jackass from New York and hear them start bitching about how great it was in NYC, I want to punch them in their smug little face. I do tell them that they can feel free to return if they don’t like it down here.

There are a lot of parts of New York state where NYC values are not welcome, nor are there jobs for non-productive sorts.

People relocating from NYC are not doing so based upon who’s in the mayor’s office. Some people grow tired of life in the big city. it’s crowded and
expensive regardless of who is mayor.

I lived in Tampa Bay for 35 years. Did business in Miami…..my customer was a Jewish lady. I hated Miami.
Because I recognized something seen in NY years earlier. I was selling to a company laundering money for the mob.
Jews move from NY and the Italians follow them.
