That’s what public service to your nation really is.
She won what used to be the most honorable and admirable award you could achieve and was willing to give it to another person if it bettered her nations chances of finding a better future.
Setting aside that he absolutely deserves it for his efforts, I respect that woman and hope we in America find more politicians who are willing to sacrifice personally to do the right thing.

This is the salient point. The gift of the medal is three things:
1. To Machado it is an attempt to get in Trump’s good graces and perhaps get him to install her party in the leadership of Venezuela.
2. To Trump it is well-deserved acknowledgement of his very real efforts towards actual peace, instead of towards the New World Order, which is what the Nobel Prize is about now.
3. To many of us it is a thumb in the eye of the Nobel committee that has become so politicized that they awarded the prize to Barak Obama who did nothing to merit it.
