This has been addressed with other dusters about his travel.
Required by existing policy to use government planes for travel - including personal travel for security purposes. Required to pay coach to reimburse.
He also had meetings with his Italian counterparts while he was there.
Plus, I seriously doubt he turned his phone off and didn't read a text or email while he was there.

I have ZERO problem with this no matter what political side is in office.
Now this next statement i might get down voted into oblivion but I don't care.
I also would not have a problem with tax dollars going towards a governor and a spouse going to the Olympics if they have an Olympian from their state. Not saying have a group of 30 family members of the governor go with them. There shouldn't be any issue with American politicians going to support Americans in the Olympics.

Patel does play hockey. He embraced the sport as a child, playing it in his hometown of Garden City, New York.
At 45, Patel still gravitates towards the ice. He coached a youth hockey team prior to his ascension to the position of FBI director. He still laces his skates up from time to time, turning out for The Dons, a D.C.-based men's recreational team, according to journalist Pablo Torre.
“I’ve been playing hockey ever since I was a kid, and I’m not going to stop playing if confirmed to be the next FBI Director,”
From a teammate on his rec team:
“He’s a team guy. He’ll block a shot, he’ll take a hit,” teammate Tommy Szabo said. “He’ll get in the dirty areas and grind and work really hard. Doesn’t expect a thank you or anything. He just goes out and basically does his job, and he fits in well.”
“The hustle factor is always there,” another teammate, Jordan Shahin, added. “He’s a tough kid, and definitely, he always wants to be out there.”
Looks like the hockey fan scheduled business so he could watch a big game in person.

In the safe space/trust tree of Political Talk, I think it's a bit weird but I don't really know Kash's relationship with hockey. If they really like him - so be it. I can see how it might annoy some red blooded American observers who only ever see Kash on podcasts and tik Tok reels, though.
But, I am enjoying the melt from the left - them enraged they don't have complete capture of this stuff is just hilarious. They're always opposed to non-sanctimonious pride/fun/etc. and they hate when big public stories like this shove them aside. They're used to being able to dictate, punish and so forth.
