Was there any goodbye post from Coach Matt?

If so, I missed it. Like " I got paid anyway suckers"! or "Sorry I wasted 4 years doing less than nothing, but good luck going forward, Tigers!"!

Sorry thought I was on the Rant page.

Not a word. He never cared to engage the fans when he was employed by LSU so this is no surprise

Honestly the way it went down that’d be awkward. Who knows what he did behind the scenes

You really had to go out of your way to even know what his voice sounded like after 4 years of being here. He basically barely even existed… there is really no surprise it didn’t work out just based off of that.

I am fine with that. The guy needed to fired but nothing about him said he should be drug through the mud

It seemed like his heart and soul was never into this job. Very surprising as a mid major guy because this was his opportunity to show he belonged at this level. Just never seemed important to him.

He seemed to accept the role Scott wanted out of MBB, just don’t cause problems for football, baseball and WBB. His personality fit in well with that assignment.

I think he didn’t quite know how to adapt up to the high major level and didn’t know (or wasn’t overly willing) to adapt to the NIL era. His roster construction was very mid major-esque. That doesn’t translate at this level.
He still thought that programs were built over 3-4 years with guys “waiting their turn.” I never once heard him mention analytics. I never saw us run a flare screen. The flare screen is relatively new in basketball but yet we didn’t incorporate it in our sets. The rest of the SEC is getting with the times. That’s why it felt like we were getting further behind. Mid majors are adapting too though. McMahon better see the light or he won’t be successful even in the mid major ranks.
Also his staff left a lot to be desired. Made up of either no names and/or alumni that maybe felt like they had a duty to this program. David Patrick was the most high profile of the staff but no one is beating down his door to come be head coach of their program. Patrick was part of Jones’ horrendous last LSU season so I was always skeptical of that addition. I heard a rumor that Patrick was forced on McMahon by Woody. Would be on brand but who really knows?
The idea that a fifth year of this miserable product was a real possibility sends a shiver down my spine.

You’ll never convince me matt McMahon tried. Johnny jones tried. Even Trent Johnson tried. They experienced moments of success albeit brief.
Matt McMahon did not try. How? When? What was the positive outcome?

I've know people who have tried as hard as they could and had nothing positive to show for it.
I do not believe this was a case of not trying; it was simply being in over his head. Not everyone makes it a point to try to showcase their "effort" so the world can praise them.

That’s so noble for him to work very hard in the shadows. Very bold and brave will making 3 million a year to be far and away the worst coach we’ve had in 100 years. Very nice.

We get it, man, you can't conceive of not tooting your own horn.
And he had the worst outcome ever at LSU, short of guys who coached single-digit games.
And he's gone, no need to disparage him anymore.

He didn't have any social media presence...or really any media presence at all. Nor did he have a ton of fan support by the end of this year. Combine that with the fact that LSU openly (at least from his perspective) worked to replace him while he was essentially told to "wait in the other room and we'll let you know if you are our coach next year" probably made it to where he didn't want to issue any type of statement, or feel the need to.
Honestly, he probably wanted leave almost as much as the fans (generally) wanted him to leave. That breakup happened and he can just move on. Does any LSU really need some sort of goodbye statement? It just didn't work.

This actually happened to Charlie Mac in 1978. The Board was meeting to decide his fate and Mac waited in the parking lot while they decided. They eventually agreed to give him one more year so he could be president of the football coaches association.
