We don't have a dominant Ace which is the most concerning to me.

If Cooper Moore stays consistently good as one of our starters, then we just need one of Evans, Schmidt, Williams to step up and be consistent. Then just rely on hitting and our deep bullpen for Sundays

While true, you can’t just take that and say they would have committed errors otherwise. 3 of those were in the game I noted which the defensive effort was just bad. But the other games was not. Even with yesterday included we only have two errors that were committed by actual starters. Arrambide and Caraway both committed yesterday.

It’s week 2 and we don’t look dominant yet. But we have the pieces and the coaching staff. Have faith.

This really shows me who just looks at the scoreboard at the end of the game and who actually watches the games to see how those runs were actually scored and what caused that.

Pitching comes on strong for us at the end of the year. I have faith.

You def do Not have two the caliber of the two we had last year at top of rotation . That’s not debatable at this point. Are they deeper, it would appear that way. Just have to throw 3-4 guys every game. Can win it all that way.

It was never the case. Never would have been. If you think there was a chance we would have 2 of the top 5 arms in college baseball again you or anyone else was crazy. That hardly ever happens.

I may be an optimist, but pitching hasn’t even been that bad.
I wouldn’t say bad and I’m not really worried at this point, but LSU does have the highest team ERA in the SEC currently. There’s definitely room for improvement.

Those 2 dominant pitchers from last year were not dominant at this time last year.

Not seeing domination like last year
At this time last year, people wanted Schmidt to replace Eyanson in the rotation because Schmidt had one good inning out of the pen and Eyanson gave up a couple of runs in his two starts.

Thank you! Eyanson barely went 4-5 innings his first few starts. Anderson took time to go longer outings. Give these guys time!

Right, Evans allowed three runs in the 3rd. He walked 2 and they had 3 infield hits. One base hit went to the outfield. I would be concerned if we were getting hit all over the ball park.

This time 1 year ago, the Rant told me in certain terms that Eyanson didn’t have SEC stuff.

Everything was a fluke yesterday. LSU got 2 RBIs on a bunt.

shite Hold That Tiger 10 said the pitching wasn't as good as advertised last year. Man did that blow up in his face. Some of these posters don't have a fukin clue.

A pet peeve of mine is when people make definitive statements on things that aren’t measurable. Not saying you can’t do it, it just makes it all kind of pointless.
I understand what you are saying, but context matters. Do we have any past history to go off of that will reasonably tell us that we can trust Yeskie and Jay Johnson with pitchers? Do they have a history of developing and making pitchers better?

This! Literally setting strikeout records and people act like we are dog water
I agree. Cooper Moore has the makings of a dependable top starter. We all know Evans has the stuff and he hasn’t looked bad. And if Schmidt doesn’t pull it together, there are others like Sheerin, Williams and Noot who have the potential to take on a starting role, as well.
One thing people are dismissing is how much better and dependable the pen looks right now. Last year we couldn’t depending on anyone outside of Cowan and Evans game to game for months. But by the end of the season, Williams, Shores, Rizy and a few others got it in gear and helped us win a title.
This year, we have several guys like Sheerin, Guidry, Noot, Williams, Rizy and Dathe who look like solid options to eat innings and close out games right from the start of the season
Jay is throwing a lot of guys out there right now to see what he has and that will lead to some rocky innings. But we will see that rotation tighten up to a core of 3 starters and 6-8 regular arms coming out of the pen as we head toward SEC play.

The starters aren’t going deep (at least partially by design) and Jay is pitching a ton of arms right now. We’ve had that luxury with the offense rolling the way it has. It’s much better to know exactly what we have and see who may step forward with some extra innings.
For example, two of our core pitchers in last year’s CWS run were true freshmen. It takes pitching these guys and letting them work it out in game action to see who can be relied on in SEC play and beyond.
