I know a lot of you are going to go with the 2000's but there was a time in the late 70's and 80's, when the legend of Tiger Stadium was built, when we didn't have all of the national studs the other big teams did yet we played toe to toe with them. The fans that were there were rabid and there wasn't any corporate culture or TAF BS yet. And all of the big dogs were nervous about playing an unranked Tiger football team in TS. And we had some great teams back then and historically great players. 1979 #1 Alabama game and #2 USC games come to mind. Barely Lost both but that didn't matter. That was the Golden era of Tiger Stadium in my eyes.

80s
I'd say 80's through early 2000's.

Product on the field was generally good, stadium wasn't over-expanded, price of admission was not insane, and people weren't spoiled by success yet.

1) Product- outside of the Hallman years, LSU was usually a bowl team, with quite a few Sugars and an Orange when that meant something.
2) Stadium was around 80K, which is PLENTY enough to get extremely loud, but you're not fighting an additional 20-25k in parking or traffic. And parking was a lot better back then, you could park on campus.
3) price of admission much lower. Students got in free, or maybe a dollar a game. GA tickets were pretty cheap (and a thing, instead of everyone having season tickets). Made it way more accessable.
4) people spoiled by success... I think the Miles era showed this the worst. You had people bitching about style of win, not a big enough margin, not enough passing etc.
It used to not be nearly this bad, once upon a time you just wanted a W. Many classic plays- goal line stands, punt returns etc- that are a part of LSU lore, would have been complained about during the height of Miles tenure, because "we should have won bigger".

Obviously 07 Florida is maybe the GOAT. But 2022 Bama was pretty damn good same with Ole Miss 2024. I’d say you’re right about the peak though.

Idk but there was a time they wanted a couple grand to move you up the list to get season tickets…… and.. last I saw they were still sending emails reminding I could buy more season tickets this year..

The stadium experience has changed a lot from just ten years ago imo..

Individual games have been top notch as well, such as 2008 Bama, 2012 Bama, 2022 Bama, 2007 Florida, 2024 Ole Miss
I’ll never forget how loud that 2012 Alabama game was. Definitely the most memorable loss I ever attended in TS.

I was a student and hoarse for days and ears were ringing afterwards too. They upset us but they were worn down after that one and lost their only game of the season at home the following week

After this you started seeing changes in people attending, leaving early, the tailgate and overall mystique.

Agreed. It’s like the fans lost their hunger and tenacity.

I've never lived closer than 11 hours from Baton Rouge and from 07-2020 didn't miss many big games in Tiger Stadium.

What a run.

07 vs UF - Great
07 vs Auburn - Great
08 Bama - Awesome
09 Florida - Great tailgate/pregame. Complete Les Offensive dud
09 Arkansas - Crowd was great for Thanksgiving. Cold.
10 Bama - Weird game. Les balls. Great crowd. Drake Nevis FTW
12 Bama - Wow! What a night.
13 A&M - Cold and wet, but Johnny Football never had a chance
14 Ole Miss - Weird to play spoiler. Especially at home
14 Bama - Damn you Les. Better team lost this one too.
15 Florida - People fed up with Les. Meh crowd.
16 Bama - Crowd tried. Coach O had bare Less offensive cabinet.
18 Bama - Great energy first half. Nothing after
22 Bama - Amazing. Crowd brought it
24 Ole Miss - Amazing. Crowd brought it. Overtime was special seeing OM go backwards
24 Bama - What a dud. Just rewatched this game and it's crazy to say, but that game is 2 bad Nuss decisions and a couple 3rd and long conversions by Bama away from being close. D was arse.

My first game was in 1965. Those first 10 years as a kid attending games w my dad will never be topped . All at night , adults dressed up, simple tailgating practices, Mike rolling around. Our gate took us to the visitor entrance tunnel. We always waited for visitors to run out before walking up to our seats . I purposely shook hands with all the opposing head coaches. Bear obviously the most memorable. It’s just entertainment now for me. Nothing more nothing less.

Before games were on TV

People who actually cared showed up in the stadium, because they had to, and watched the game.

And with the smaller stadium size, it was the people who cared the most there. Not just “fans” sitting there because they went to party.

Smart phones were a thing but people maybe took 2 pics a game...no insta or tiktok...crowd was at its loudest then before the expansion.... saw the insane 07 Florida game, Tennessee curfuffle, Flynn to byrd.... no booze sales but the it still smelled like bourbon.....take me back

1979 USC; although a loss, it epitomized the noise, intimidation, pageantry, and passion that made Tiger Stadium special. Sadly, those conditions rarely manifest any more, except on isolated occasions, and seldom for an entire game.

For longtime LSU fans, USC’s 17-12 last-minute comeback win in Baton Rouge in 1979 remains a different sort of deep cut, one that still bleeds — that rare loss that belongs on the list of the most unforgettable games LSU has ever played. For decades, uber-talented USC’s players have shared its lasting impression.

“I haven’t been in an event like that at any level of football,” Pro Football Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, a USC starting safety that night, told The Times-Picayune 30 years later. “Out of all the games I’ve ever played in, I’ve never been in anything like that, and I am including my Super Bowls in that assessment.

“It’s probably the only time in my life I was intimidated by the crowd.”

I was there it’s still the single greatest sporting event I ever attended and that includes the dome game after Katrina and NFC game title game. And countless great LSU nights since. Hard to explain why but I was 11 years old and it’s still emblazoned in my mind. it was something I have never experienced since.
