“brilliant engineers” but software is shite? Something seems amiss here. I have a sneaking suspicion that he (the guy on video) works for Lucid as one of those “brilliant engineers”. The shitload of complaints and the absolute almost undriveability of this vehicle and, I would bet, he still owns it and drives it and complains the entire time. What an idiot!

Niche manufacturer, but cars are overly complicated with software controls. Much designed to limit your use without a subscription model.
Make care less electronic and more mechanical and people will buy again.
I think the electric car manufacturers are just trying to offer the things that Tesla offers but they don't have the ability to do it because they are years behind on experience and testing. On my Tesla, all the controls in the vehicle are either on the steering wheel or on the screen so if you ever have any mechanical issues with them, service can just replace them. I think it also cuts down on the manufacturing cost. The interior/dash on my Model Y is sleek, simple, and productive. Yes productive, especially with grok being connected and the ability to use the microphone
I have a neighbor with a 5-year-old Tesla that with the software updates now has FSD (Fully Supervised Driving). I doubt he ever thought he would have his car driving him automatically when he purchased it, What other car can you buy that gets better after you purchase it?
I bought this vehicle to get around town to cut down on mileage of my other vehicle which I absolutely loved. I have had my Tesla for 5 months now and I have only driven my other vehicle twice, just to run it a little and let it charge the battery. I am going to sell it soon, which is something I never thought I would do.

Tesla, is light years ahead of Lucid, and nearly every other EV auto manufactuer with technology.
That car spies on you, apparently it can tell when you are have sex in the car. Too much Big Brother technology to make me a buyer.

Only “deal” I received was a $7500 off tax credit — no sales person to deal with at Tesla. Everything is done through the app!
I had the same $7500 off, but I wanted to mention Tesla is now offering leases on used vehicles in some states (I believe Texas is one of the states). Being able to drive a Tesla for what I expect is less than $200 a month, is a good deal. If I had a kid in school, I think would be a good vehicle for them. Lots of parent controls like max speed, max % of speed over speed limit, etc.

They can pretty much tell anything you're doing in the car. But they're notoriously tight lipped about releasing any data even within the Tesla universe. For example, their AI might flag for certain things, like having sex when the car is moving (which oddly enough was a response to porn actors filming themselves screwing with FSD on) But they don't consume or store all the video data.

Sounds like he's saying some of the other engineering on the car is brilliant such as the fuel economy and other out-of-the-box thinking. It's possible that management decided to outsource the software side, or imposed too aggressive deadlines.

I think EVs have their place, as long as you have a secondary vehicle that you could potentially use for longer trips.
We've been using the wife's SUV as our family car, and I only use my car to go to/from work and quick errands around town since I can't fit all of the kids in the backseat (all 3 still in car seats/boosters). As a result, I keep going back and forth on whether or not to make the switch to a Tesla, from Lexus.
How often do you need to charge? What is your daily commute like?

my wife insisted on trading in her GX for the tesla and the geek in me LOVED alot of things about the tesla...they do alot of things right..but the car felt 'cheap' overall. for a so-called luxury ev the fit & finish was pretty subpar.
resell value is also a factor; aka can i buy your lexus when you switch to a tesla?

We have a model 3 and a Lexus SUV as our dailys. It's a good mix. We use the Tesla pretty exclusively around town ad the Lexus for roadtrips. It's been a good combination for us.

Once a week max (20%>80%) but she works from home so it's just running errands or us going out around town.

I remember Car & Driver's review of the Saturn Ion back in 2002 being absolutely brutal, to the point that I later wondered if someone at GM (but not Saturn specifically) had put them up to it.
C&D also used to have an editor named Csaba Csere who was kind of the voice-in-the-wilderness about how shitty Toyota actually is. He may even have speculated, as I did, that the code for Toyota's ECU firmware was riddled with potential problems that could have caused unintended acceleration- speculation, I'd add, that turned out to be 100% justified.
The most brutal of the Csaba Csere takedowns have disappeared from the web forever... hmmm.

having sex when the car is moving
Exactly, if I am getting a good highway BJ, that is my private thing (unless a trucker is passing by).

Pre-marriage, marriage, and post-divorce --- I can tell you that's not something that was or is even a thought or concern in my mind.

Hey that’s my plumber! or was it a/c guys?
In all seriousness there was one common offender who you can find on your favorite porn site. They’ve had quite the cat and mouse game going.

When we bought my wife’s 2020 Infinity QX60 she was so excited. I hate that damn car so many fricking buttons. I feel like I’m in the cockpit of the space shuttle or something. And since I don’t drive it very often, when I do, I can never remember how to change crap like temp or radio stations.
