Most of these type things, especially the big expensive ones, are usually more fun to want and wish for than to actually own
Profound... And as I've gotten older with the means I find this to be true

I've always wanted a Lotus Esprit I'll get one one day.

My grandma was in an assisted living place before she died. She was quite the gossip and kept me up on all the goings on. The big news around there one summer was one of her neighbors (80+ guy with Alzheimer’s) got out of an open door in the “memory unit” and disappeared one afternoon. They ended up calling the guys family and they showed up and were raising hell when the dude pulled up in a brand new fire engine red Cadillac.
He climbed out and proudly announced he had always wanted one and now he had it. Turned out the guy walked almost five miles to a dealership, went in and bought the car with a check. The family took the keys away but the facility let them park it on the side of the building where he could see it from his room. Every time I would go by to visit Grandma I would see him and he would ask if I had seen his car yet.

do it! do it now while you are healthy. when i had to 'hang up' my extreme training and racing regimen, i said it was just for a minute while i balanced my new wife, home and kid.
I mean that sounds great but the fact is there is a balance between all those other things too. Plus we just did 3 weeks in Europe with the 5 of us last summer and I ran with bulls with my 65 year old father which was an awesome experience. I'm not baller enough to take two huge trips like that back to back.
While I'm aware I could drop dead tomorrow 50 isn't that old and being able to wait and experience it with my son would make it infinitely more special.

1916-D Mercury Dime
When I was a kid, I’d look at the price for one in great condition and think “What idiot would spend that much on a dime?”
Fast forward a few decades and I thought I’d buy one and looked up the price and thought “What idiot would spend that much on a dime?”
About 7 years ago I realized I was not going to spend all the money I would have. I went back and found my coin collection and finished out the three series (Mercury Dimes, Standing Liberty Quarters & Walking Liberty Halves) that I had been fighting to complete as a kid and intermittently as an adult.
I got investor grade coins (PCGS slabbed) to do it. Got a few other coins too that I’d always wanted, high-grade in slabs. My timing was pretty good, everything I bought then has appreciated, I’ve more doubled my investment. Some individual coins have tripled in value or more.
I feel like I checked the box and now I can easily let them go (for their value) because my kids aren’t coin collectors.

You’re my hero.
We used to love going to weekend coin shows and add to our collections of our favorite type of coin. I’d buy bags of wheat pennies from ads in Numismatic News. It was a good hobby that taught patience and delayed gratification. But my kids have zero interest. I put some gold and silver coins in ammo boxes with each kid’s name on it and locked them up in the safe deposit box. I bet they’ll be interested in coins when they find that stuff one day!

I always wanted one
A nice hunting camp on enough property to feel somewhat secluded.
I just want to be the grandpa who can bring his kids and grandkids out to the camp in the woods whenever they want so they can learn and do stuff. I'm really not a huge hunter or outdoors expert, but it's because I didn't have that growing up. I hope that I can provide my kids and their kids the experiences that I wanted and didn't have. Also, I hope it's a place for the whole family to get away from life and get into the woods to be together whenever they want.

Eitek1,
I’ve said a prayer for your wife and you. May God bless you both and give you strength and comfort.

I got one of those. Was the best Christmas morning of all time.

Small camp on the lake. Nothing big or fancy. Maybe a two bedroom right on the water with a pier or boathouse. Just want a place for the grandkids to come hang out, fish off the pier, build campfires and have s’mores. Preferably on Laker Erling or Caddo Lake but would consider Lake of the Pine, Claiborne or Bisteneau.

Sounds great, bait shop hiring?
Posted on 2/11/26 at 8:39 pm to Shexter
You god damn right. I asked for that thing for maybe 4 or 5 years in a row for Christmas and my momma would tell me "that's too expensive for Santa".. Thats part of the reason I stopped believing because other kids got things more expensive than this so why would a real Santa hold out on me?

What "I've always wanted" seems to change every decade.

At 60, I’m now very happy that I didn’t spend time trying to keep up with others when it came to cars, homes, boats and other toys.
It’s nice to have only a very small amount of debt, which allows me to spend more time doing the things I love
And no Cadillac can ever compare to that.

I don't care to own anything but the top remaining thing on my bucket list is to summit Kilimanjaro. My sons high school graduation will correspond with my 50th 7 years from now so hoping it will be something he's interested in and we can do it together.
Done this one. It’s a great trek. Highly recommend.

Well it doesn’t look like anybody asked you.
If it is not a Corvette, what is it?
