If it is not woke, Amazon will not go broke.

Seriously, if movie makers will adapt beloved stories and stay true to source material they will be more successful.

I'm not sure about this movie. The previews have kind of turned me off. It doesn't look that good and it kind of gives me vibes of that horrible Adam Sandler Netflix space movie. Please tell me it will be better than the previews. I'm unsure if I will go see it at the threatre until I get some feedback.

It's nothing like that. The book is fantastic and definitely worth a read. Go see this in theatres.

It is an amazing book.

Do yourself a favor and try to listen to the audiobook if you can. Ray Porter does an AMAZING job all around, especially with one character and the mood of the story as it goes up and down.

I have read the book and yes, you are way off.

That being said, I liked the Sandler movie for what it was. I also liked Moon which is similar.

So far my impressions from the trailers (which they've shown too much of IMO) I think the movie is going to nail it. I sure hope I'm right. But even if it doesn't, the read the book. It's outstanding.

Read the book. Finished the audiobook a month ago, your take on what you’ve seen so far is WAY off.

I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time. Especially an adaptation…

Hopefully it is a good movie. Not enough good sci fi out there being made.

I'm going to watch it because I loved the book. My wife will watch it because Ryan Gosling. I think it will do well.

So its about 54% (pre-tax credits) of what Amazon has spent on producing EACH season of Rings of Power (not to mention the $250 million for the rights)?

I don't think it's such a big gamble comparatively. Is it important o see if Amazon can actually make a good theater movie? Yes, but cost-wise, it's small fish.

I can't wait for the breathless tweets and stories about the James Bond film.

I loved the book. I read it and listened to the audio book (best audio book I've ever listened to).

I already booked tickets for opening weekend at an IMAX.

Just a heads up, there is an early showing in IMAXs on March 16 at 7pm local time. Tickets are available if you link a Fandango account (free) with Amazon Prime.

It’s the biggest original (based on a book)
So it’s not an original film, at all. It’s based on a book that is phenomenal and was a commercial and critical success, by a writer who has already had one film adaptation that was a major box office and critical success

They’re betting big on pre-tested IP.

I’m getting very hyped for this movie, maybe too hyped. I love the book, like that they kept the screenwriter from The Martian, think Gosling and Lord/Miller are a match made in heaven for the character and story, and so far the marketing has been great. The Jeopardy stunt is perfect.

Instead of a preview, you could inquire about the source material, which is fantastic. If they nail the feel of the book, this will be a homerun.

My guess is $100M + opening weekend. It will definitely make a profit, and could be big. The Martian made $600 million, I think it easily beats that.

I actually picked up the audiobook from a reccomendation from someone on here (may have been another board). The rec was basically "if you liked the Martian, look nothing else up about Project Hail Mary and go pick up the book asap". I did just that. From the very beginning when no one knew anything to the bigger reveal mid book all the way through and it was just awesome. Thank you, that random TD poster. I'm a little irritated that there are effectively spoilers in the trailer, but at the same time I dont think you can really work the movie the way the book was written so it is what it is. Im going to see it and an looking forward to it. I Def do rec read (or listen) to the book before movie if possible.

Yeah I think that’s where I’m at. I think they needed to show that this isn’t The Martian and isn’t a movie like Alien either.

But it is a shame the big reveal won’t surprise people. I was on a walk listening to the audiobook and literally stopped in my tracks and gasped, as I went in totally blind.

I sooo want this movie to crush it

I have not been to a movie theater in 15 years. This might get me there

The book is really, really good. My wife and I, with 6 friends, are already planning on seeing this in theaters and we really don't go to the movies anymore unless it's a kids movie matinee.

This will make money. Early reviews are fantastic.

ETA:

And to echo others, I read it and then listened to the audiobook. Best audiobook I've listened to.

I'm glad it's like 2 hours and 45 minutes, they couldn't squeeze this story into anything shorter.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks. This one was a masterpiece.

I haven’t been to the movies in 15 years but I’m going see this one.

I just picked up the book this past weekend. It was highly recommended by friends and coworkers. It's apparently an excellent story

I read it a week or two ago. I loved The Martian so I picked this one up because I like AW's style I guess. I'm not a big fiction reader, but I read PHM in 4-5 days. I loved it and it was a VERY easy read. I'm super interested to see how certain things play out on a movie screen.

But I am way more pumped about the movie, and now I can be a book snob about it if it sucks.
