I had a 6 footer in my yard a while back.
Same here. My neighbor had just sent me a picture of it a few days before, I was mowing the grass and he was only a few feet away from me I think we scared eachother
They do a good job looking scary because they can get so big, share some characteristics of a few venomous snakes and they flatten their heads. The few moccasins I’ve actually seen are much more menacing

What would you do if I bit you?
A human bite hurts about 50x more than a snake bite. My yorkie’s bite hurts about 20x more than a 6 ft. rat snake.

Venomous, not poisonous

Could be poisonous too. I probably wouldn't eat it unless you were in a survival situation, and definitely make sure it reaches AT LEAST 165 degrees internal temperature first.

All venom is poison but all poison isn’t venom. So saying it’s poisonous would still be correct.

There is a great facebook group. I’m sure they have Louisiana like the page for Georgia.
I believe the page for Georgia is Georgia Snake Identification. I’ve learned so much on there.

If the head has a pronounced triangular shape, they’re usually poisonous.
That’s not true

Cobra KANG is the correct nomenclature.

You were taught wrong. A lot of snakes like to flatten their head into threatening triangles. Take this wannabe tough water snake for example:
That being said, you'll never go wrong avoiding a snake because it's got a triangle head. Just don't kill them for having triangle heads.

Although not venomous, they still bite little kids just like dogs do
You're comparing a non-venomous snake bite to a dog bite?

Fun fact: Garter Snakes are both poisonous AND venomous; or more accurately, you can say is poisonous and be correct.
They have a mild venom usually not harmful to humans, but the food they eat (some frogs and slugs) are poisonous and harmful to humans and can stay in their system.
The more you know.

There are only two kinds of snakes, I am told...
There's a harmless chicken snakes, and then there's deadly King Cobras.
I don't see no chicken in that one's mouth, so I'll let you figger it out from there.

It's the same as every snake that I come across - a dead snake

What does “look poisonous” mean?
I would assume they mean distinct marking and a wide head (to house the venom glands)
