Chester might be the only departure from the unit I can say with certainty is awful and does not belong on this level.

Mubenga was always a project player. He is likely a G5 level guy or will go somewhere and sit on the bench.

Chester was so bad he was always the first off the bench.

The physical tools are good and interest in getting them on your team is based on their size and athleticism. Not surprising at all.

The intangibles were exposed by, I think but nobody knows, coaches asking them to absorb too much early on. They probably will be better later in their collegiate work.

It really doesn't matter how good they were at LSU. The OL situation in the portal is a shite-show and always has been.

Just the fact that they were at LSU and were highly-regarded in high school will get them major offers.

Schools are willing to gamble. Some may make the adjustment, some won't.

Been following this and other threads about the O-line guys we've lost. Let's stipulate that the majority opinion is correct and that the problem wasn't the players but some combination of coaching and scheme. (I lean that way myself.)

If that's the case, why have so many left, even with the prospect of what most of us think will be better coaching? Is it money? Misplaced loyalty to BD ( who was, after all, a good recruiter)? Did the new staff not want to keep them? Just curious as to what people think...

So coach hashtag, please explain what was deficient in Sloan's scheme as opposed to those running games which were more successful. Rushing attempts are designed for the back to run throuhg a handful of locations. Regardless of what is called it is incumbent upon the linemen to execute certain blocks based upon the intnded point of attack and the positioning of the defender they are responsible to block. Since you claim the problem is Sloan's scheme please justify your opinion.
hey mr sloan.

This just goes to show that there was a lot of things going on behind the scenes involving Davis vs Kelly. I hope the entire story comes out soon.

it was Sloan's scheme, IMO.

A lot of Sloans system was scheming plays because the line couldn’t run block or give the QB 2 secs. That’s why we would run 20 WR screens

Only one with blinders on thought all former 4 and 5 star recruits in 1st or 2nd year of experience were mid major gets.

Please don’t come back and post in shock when most end up being very solid players.

these guys are legit

I get what you’re saying but little from what I saw last year screams top tier - and that’s where they’re off to. Did Wolford think they’re legit like big time SEC legit, or does he think they’re better suited for mid-major?

It will be interesting to see what the game plan is for LSU to replace them given that reality. I thought at least a couple would land back at LSU after testing the waters and finding a soft market. Either LSU misjudged the market or they have specific players in mind who haven’t materialized. This is the one area of the staff that seems like a question mark, so the path forward seems uncertain as well.

I seriously thought that in 2026 these guys would ply their trade in the Sun Belt or American Conference.

Unlike all the downvotes, I agree with you SOMEWHAT! I thought there were 2 paths for these OL. They could either be starters at mid-level conference teams OR decent reserves for SEC, etc teams. Why don't we wait and see what A&M, Tenn, Ole Miss STARTING OLs look like next season. That is the real measure of how good they are.

They have SEC experience so teams will take them. Then we will see if they play much or not.

The whiff is bad coaching, getting your arse beat on a block you are trying to sustain..is more player related. We just wandered around after the snap, no one knew what the hell to do.

Apparently they didn't know when to move and when not to move during the play call either. They just sucked all around. The coaching sucked and so did every aspect of their play.

From another thread but posting again

Brad Davis Average Rushing YPG produced by his OL units over last 11 seasons

Year | Ranking |Team
2015| 108 |East Carolina
2016| 115 |North Texas
2017| 68 |Florida
2018| 28 |Missouri
2019| 85 |Missouri
2020| 76 |Arkansas
2021| 109 |LSU
2022| 43 |LSU
2023| 14 |LSU
2024| 104 |LSU
2025| 109 |LSU

In 2022 and 2023 we had JD5 which juiced those numbers. Even including those years his average is the 78th ranked in rushing YPG.

If you exclude them then his OL units have paved the way for an average 89th ranked rushing attack.

There are FOUR OL on NFL rosters from last year and we ranked 104th in the country.

A couple of the ones that left will turn out to be solid OLineman. Maybe not superstars, but quality starters. A few are busts that will never turn out. Davis was not developing the talent he had. I want be surprised if Curne turns out to be good at OM. Not sure on the others.
