Seems like we went there almost every Saturday when I was a kid.
Didn't mind. I headed straight to the Sears branded Atari and would play it for what seemed like hours while my mom and Dad did whatever they did that took so long.

Was there any bigger torture as a young boy then when mom said...were going home next but we have to go shopping first. It felt eternal.... legitimately like 8 hours passed as you were thinking about what your friends might be playing back in the neighborhood as you had to walk from clothes rack to clothes rack

Damn…some of the little things in that video really took me back.
The sound of the car starting, the squeak in the door, the girl rolling up the window, the sound of the cash register.
Yeah, these little things really hit the brain somewhere. If only we could experience the smells - that's a strong memory trigger!
I think that video has been posted before, and I probably made the same comment here - but a few years back, I had a key duplicated. The sound of that machine grinding away on that brass key hasn't changed since I was a kid in the 60's. Took me back to standing by my Mom's side at Western Auto as she had a key made. Strong memory.

What's missing is the smell of popcorn and its oil going stale. It never smelled freshly popped.

Bought my first shotgun at the local Sears.

I wasn't even born yet.. I would be the next year through.
A few things about this video.
- The green car they parked by at the mall. It reminds me of the car we had. My brother was sitting in the front seat and leaning against the door. My mom made a turn coming off a stop at a stop sign and the door opened, my brother fell out..
I think I remember it more because it was talked about enough to keep it a memory because I was young when it happened.
- Look at how those kids behaved. That's "if you act up and give me any problems I will beat your arse" behavior. I used to hate going shopping with my mom and my grandma, her mother. They would shop for a long time. One time I kept telling my mom I was ready to go, she slapped the shite out of me on my leg. Then told my daddy when he got home from work. That was the last time she had to worry about me "not acting right"

I remember the days when we would come visit my Grandmother who lived in Walker and we'd drive to Baton Rouge to go to the big Sears on Florida Boulevard. Those were the good ole days!

People don’t realize how big sears was back then. Never would have thought it would turn to nothing like it is today.

Wait why are those dogs outside at the beginning of the video?

Remember those metal devices they used to use to measure your feet? I feel like I haven’t seen one of those since 1999
I used one on my son at Academy this year.

Unbelievable how our country has changed in the past 50 years... Sure looks different today.

Even worse was going to the fabric store with mom back then
I would go round and round in circles around the bolts of fabric while mom perused (I was going insane in there)
Back then moms would still make kids clothes.

Jailed AWFL’s should be subjected to Americana videos 24/7 for their entire sentence.

As a child of the 70s and 80s, this hits home. Growing up Sears was where almost everything came from Sears.
Clothes
Toys
Appliances
TVs
Stereos
Lawnmowers
Pretty much anything that wasn’t groceries or living room furniture came from either Sears or K-Mart in our house then.

I worked at one of the small hometown stores in high school and even that one had pockets of the store that had the sears smell.

Back in the early and mid 70’s, Fords like that one had two keys, one for the door, one for the ignition.

Had a part time job at Sears when I was in college. Seats was great at working around my class schedule and I was in the shoe dept. Good memories from that video.
