Seattle's new ultra-woke mayor has triggered chaos by ordering police not to arrest people doing drugs on the streets of the city plagued by crime and homelessness.
Democratic socialist Katie Wilson, 43, was sworn in as the city's 58th mayor on Friday.
The progressive politician who co-founded the Transit Riders Union has already taken steps that concerned residents and law enforcement officials say will destroy Seattle.
Wilson demonstrated her soft-on-crime ideology by demanding cops let public drug use slide - a practice that proved disastrous in the past - according to the Seattle Police Officers Guild (SPOG).
'The recent naive, ignorant political decision to not arrest offenders for open drug use in the City of Seattle is horrifically dangerous and will create more death and societal decay,' SPOG President Mike Solan wrote in a statement on Sunday.
'It embodies an enormous flaw in those in our community who think that meeting people where they are, who are in the throes of addiction, is the correct path to lift them up.'
Solan, who leads the union representing all 1,300 members of the Seattle Police Department (SPD), slammed the policy as 'suicidal empathy.'

It's intentional and the bolded part is the desired outcome. Can't have a revolution if people are content and living good lives.

Unfortunately if you want the electorate to see what socialist leadership looks like, you have to let them fail spectacularly. Which sucks because we have some otherwise incredible places that are going to go to the crapper.

I don't think jail/prison is the way to treat addiction initially, or maybe even the 2nd time. But, eventually consequences are faced, especially those in public disregarding safety & common decency.
Rehab & counseling didnt work the first few times, off you go. Be a junkie in prison.

Their open drug use is insane. When I was in Seattle in August for a few days, I saw at least 4 instances of EMS responding to ODs on the sidewalks pumping arcane.

This same SPOG protects the anqueefers on the streets when they're rioting and raising hell. A majority of their officers are anqueefer apologists.
Don't expect anything but a downward spiral when you've laid the foundation for a downward spiral for a couple decades.
You cannot just say "well, this kind of total anarchy is cool but this other kind of total anarchy is not!". Be a lawful city or be a lawless city. You cannot have both.

Exactly. The only way to fix the disastrous woke era is to let them prove to everyone how dumb and disastrous their woke policies are with no one they can blame for their mess.
Let them fail and watch these people destroy themselves and their movement for at least a generation. When you fail to teach the lessons in schools, the lesson has to be taught through life failures.

And when there’s a bunch of junkies hanging out and shooting up in front of a grocery store and paying customers go elsewhere and the store is losing a ton of money, she wants it to be illegal for that grocery store to close down.

The amazing thing with her election is that the guy she beat in the race bent over backwards to promote progressive ideology. He was a native American I believe. They replaced him anyways, with an AWFL.
Portland doesn't have the infrastructure of Seattle, so it is likely lost for decades, downtown, at least. Seattle might be able to recover quickly from her rule, but the big businesses are starting to look elsewhere.
